I think drag racing would be pretty dope as a “masculine activity”. Maybe hunting too or even dirt biking. But those are things that we may never see
When you think about it, it really is a slippery slope. I’m sure the team has had some good discussions amongst themselves about new features and elements to add but then the ideas get shot down when they realize teenage girls (the majority of their players) probably won’t enjoy it. And if the majority of your players don’t want to buy a pack, that’s a substantial loss of revenue. Is it worth it to lose that revenue for the hopes of getting revenue from the “other” players?
So unfortunately I understand why they don’t just go all in with certain stuff. They probably do a ton of expensive marketing research to see if teenage girls would enjoy a certain pack before going into production.
Not to mention I can already see the Twitter rage if the team comes out with packs more geared toward a more masculine audience.
"UM EXCUSE ME EA???? PIZZA ROLLS NOT GENDER ROLES!!!"
"EA is literally saying that only men can use this pack!! What about trans and cis women and non-gender conforming people????"
"Oh great a pack about men and power tools. Whats next? A pack about how great it is to be a woman who does nothing but cook and clean all day?"
It does not need to be content that is marketed as manly stuff. If I would see a garage pack with a woman in overall and gear on the cover I would not think "oh this is for girls". The dust kit has multiple men in the marketing but I still think it's a girl's pack. Also I know not all girls play with dolls and doll houses as a kid.
I don't know much about transgender or gender fluid people but I remember when I first saw CAS again I was like 'how old is this game? Only 2 sexes?". But I read somewhere that will be fixed
There has always been only 2 sexes. Just saying. “Diversity” is what has ruined the sims 4 if I’m being honest. If we, men, were to get a pack towards us there would be a whole backlash by Twitter & this “woke”, cancel culture because apparently that wouldn’t be considered diversity unless it’s aimed towards LGBT, BLM, etc..
So if "Diversity" is what ruined the sims 4, reasonably you are of course against diversifying the game by adding new things for male sims? Would that ruin the game, since it's a form of diversity, or no?
In my opinion, it would only improve the game. I would love new things for my male sims, they could use it with how little/bad our options are.
As I said in my previous comment, there would be backlash because it would not be considered diversity. This new generation apparently determines what’s okay & what’s not okay. If anything, it would most likely be considered degrading or sexist or sensitive towards LGBT stereotypes.
And yes it has ruined the franchise in many ways. Unlike its previous titles, we had so many unique things we don’t see in the sims 4. Like the old raunchy animations & quirky gameplay.
Sims 4 is all over the place without an identity because it’s too focused in trying to include all these cultures, orientations etc without trying to offend. But look how well that worked out with snowy escape.
People want diversity yet when EA does they complain. When they don’t, they complain. Look at the recent article by SimsVip https://simsvip.com/2021/03/26/the-sims-its-time-to-change-the-worlds-literally/
Previous titles were good because they were only focused on gameplay elements.
But enough of going off topic.
Stop! Just stop! Are you telling me that every gay man flirts like the sims do? Really? You wanna talk about diversity and then categorize all gay men as should be feminine? That's offensive! This is not a topic about wanting men to be heterosexual. This is a topic about men being men.
Edit: I wanted to add on that note. That this could also be transferable to women. There are "manly" women in our world as well who would love a garage or do all stuff that is not so domestic
I’m sorry but I’m so lost at what you’re talking about. Where did I say that they flirt like the sims? I never said all gay men are feminine either. I also never talked about men to be heterosexual? I’m so confused at this reply
You didn't say that but that is what it comes down to if you start stating that there would be a backlash of the LGBT community. Why on earth would the LGBT community complain of adding adding non-domestic or "manly" features to the Sims? It's just bonkers and I'm even upset to see this sort of talk in the responses. When I made this topic I feared a backlash of players that don't want their world changed and would say that if I want a garage I need to go buy Need for Speed. This has nothing to do with whom Sims prefer to woohoo. This is about standing in a store with a wallet full of cash and noticing the shop will not serve you.
Why I'm talking about the Sims flirting is because I was not grossed out that male sims flirt with each other. The first time that happened in my game I was grossed out by the stereotype I saw of two man flirting. That is offensive to the LGBT community. If there was no backlash over that there will be no backlash over packs that contain more "manly stuff".
Maybe you interpreted the title of the topic wrong and assumed I want packs called "for Men" in that case I understand what you mean with backlash. But no that is not the suggestion :)

Can you elaborate on what you mean by women oriented? Do you mean just because of all the CAS stuff being mainly for adult women?
The kits are a good example. Kitchen stuff, vacuum tools and 90's outfits. Where is my garage?
Yeah that's a pass for me. These aren't things FOR women they're things stereotypically ASSIGNED to women. But last I checked both men and women lived through the 90s, literally so many people enjoy cooking, and cleaning is a basic life necessity. Half of my close women friends in life have been really into cars and even if they weren't plenty of people of all genders have, want, or use garages. So, I strongly disagree with this sentiment. However, I do think the CAS items tend to be very biased, and my male sims really struggle to branch out their fashion choices. Though, I suppose you could say that is also a reflection of the real world and limited choices in typical male clothing vs female clothing. Still, options would be nice because the female clothes don't always translate well to the different frames.
I don't intend to come across as mean, or disrespectful, or a troll, I just vehemently disagree on this specifc point. That's all.
Well let me put it this way: If I had a daughter I would probably try not to let her play the Sims at a young age. Not because of the flirting stuff but because I think this game has a lot of gender issues where women are portrayed as vacuuming, cooking, parenting beings. If it was a boy it would be because of the flirting because I would not want him to think every girl that talks to him is actually hitting on him. :)
It's not a problem for me that you can go deep in that lifestyle because I notice a lot of boys and girls on YouTube are having a blast with the Sims in that way. I open the Sims and see a lot of potential to start the world how I love my Sim worlds to be and then you head to the shop to find the stuff you need to create that world and I only find stuff packs that aren't that interesting to me. Things the community go nuts about. They decide on things like a Laundry day pack. When I have a look at this game and the community I notice there is just a big part of consumers missing and that is probably because they follow the community too much. Instead of "expanding" the game they narrow down the game.
And this: Why would the 90's be about vacuuming and cooking. People didn't cook in the 90's fastfood had just arrived in Europe. We didn't vacuum because we just got rid of those (in those days ugly) carpets of the 80's. The 90's were about partying and nightclubs. B)
Edit back to the topic: I started to explore CAS a bit more and indeed I should be infuriated. Where are all my clothes? The Sims hate men :'(
