I am very excited about this new update. This new update sounds game changing. The sexual orientation is a huge thing and so is wants and fears. To be honest I’m surprised the wants and fears isn’t being talked about more. I mean both are huge deals for the game and will offer a lot more in depth game play, I’ve missed both from the sims 2 a lot. If they bring this back right it could become the best sims game yet. To be honest I was ready for the sims 5 because of these missing aspects. I’m surprised they are bringing these features back to this game. I am happy though but I’m guessing it will be years before the release of the sims 5. Which is okay with me if this wasn’t just lazily done but from what I’ve heard it sounds like to me the game is pretty much getting a base game overhaul.

Unfortunately the YouTubers mention them and then proceed to completely ignore them. I watched them. Never saw anything about Bee Boxes or 1x1 Pools. Awesome. B) Fears seemed to be rare however.I can't wait to explore them because even as bad as whims were, I still used them.

I'm also extremely excited, as since TS2 my main day to day playstyle has been wants/fears based. I still used whims even though they were honestly terrible and I had to cycle through them until I landed on one that made sense for my sim. So even if the wants and fears aren't as good as previous gens, it'll still (hopefully, but it's a low bar) be better than whims, which haven't been updated in years.I'm not sure how I feel about the way they've implemented fears specifically, with them being in the traits panel. So I'm looking forward for trying them out myself, since it doesn't seem like many early access videos are focusing on them at all. I just REALLY hope there's some sort of negative consequence outside of, like, a temporary moodlet that affects the sim if a fear is met. In TS2, your sim's needs could be met, but if they were experiencing lots of fears or not experiencing wants, it would drop until your sim had a breakdown. In TS3, the mood meter was more affected by needs than the aspiration bar, but moodlets also had an impact on it, where it would add up to a cumulative overall mood. I think TS3's system would work well for TS4, since currently, all the moodlets happen at once which leads to them flip flopping constantly and makes for some pretty emotionally unstable sims. But if they were to be totaled up into a single overall mood level, I think it would make for a much more consistent emotional state for our sims. Especially since currently only positive moodlets stack, while negative ones don't (apparently, from what I've read and noticed personally). I only started playing TS3 within the last few years, but when I noticed how the mood meter worked my first thought was "this would be a great way to solve TS4's moodlet problem".

So I'm curious to see if this is a fail or success system.

I wonder if wants and fears will be a base game update with elements from all packs, or if it will focus on teenagers (HSY)? I think it sounds great, but hopefully there will not be a new set of popups like "Jim is in a good mood while talking to a plant , should he Like Gardening?". If the game suggests wants sand fears for very single action my sims take, including what random NPCs do, I will have a mental breakdown.

Also, hoping for a way to toggle off *all* popups for video recording sessions. While playing with hidden UI most popups will pause the game and when switching UI on off to delete the popup, your selected camera view and all lined up actions etc will need to be redone.

Wants and fears is part of the base game update dates. According what they said in the live stream there will be some teen specific ones but you won't need the pack to have them.

As someone who used whims regularly I'm cautiously excited about want and fears. I mean could they have made them worse, what are the odds? I really hoping it's good!

I'm excited for the day when my sim, in a passionate embrace with her lover, no longer gets the sudden urge to buy a bee box. Or a dishwasher. That's when it really sinks in, "oh god I'm married", dishwasher dreams while smooching your partner.

I love that the wants are going to be long term, short term, and in the moment. That feels more natural. I have some worries about fears though. How badly will they hamper our sims as they go about their day, their jobs, and relationships? The Gurus did say you can choose to have your sim confront their fears and make them go away, but how much time and effort is that going to require? Is it going to chew up a lot of time and affect work performance, school performance? Fears should have some affect, they do in real life, but I don't want them to go over the top with it. Now if we had a scaredy cat trait, or neurotic, then I could see them being paralyzed by their fears to a greater degree. But most sims shouldn't have their fears become all consuming things.

Like with so many new features, I guess these things will be fine tuned when they see how we react to the frequency etc., some features are more invading while they are new, and later on a bit toned down to leave some limelight to new features.

I like that they are developing our sims' personality like this. I think it was a major wish from the community at some long gone poll, and that they have been working on these things for a while.
