Being the huge halloweenie that I am, I made a spooky day holiday in the calendar. However, after clicking on my sim and selecting "wear costume" the spooky stuff costumes aren't listed as options. Is this happening to anyone else? Is this a bug, or a dumb oversight on EAs part?

But if the game doesn't recognise them as costumes, that's really unfortunate.

Really? I was planning on getting Spooky Day to go with Seasons, partly for the costumes. But if the game doesn't recognise them as costumes, that's really unfortunate.

Spooky costumes are an option for Spooky Parties. You can click on your sim and select what costume you want your sim to wear.

By the way, is there even the option to throw the party during holidays? If so, it'd be a workaround to use the Spooky costumes, but by the way you're describing it looks like that isn't the case. Hm, so we can't go on a regular date during Love Day either?

@MissNightOwl I don't have the EP yet, but I saw someone do a Weenie Roast while having a Summer holiday in their Let's Play. So this should work!

Thanks for information :) So I guess you could throw a Spooky Party and choose the costumes that way, just don't make it prestige party if you don't care about goals. I'm pretty sure you don't even have to complete the event, because Sims won't change automatically when it ends.
