Starting A New Game Should Give Players An Option To Choose A Household Or Enter CAS

I agree!!
This is ridiculously frustrating for new players and old players.

I've been saying this since 2014. I gave up!
This was not a problem in the past games.

I requested this years ago. It would be extremely helpful in my opinion. Especially for those who just wanted to build in their games and not create a Sim. Or build in a world like Newcrest. This is one of the most annoying features in the mechanics of TS4. I hated having to load the last family I played in TS3, too, before I could just get to what I wanted to do. What happened to play your way? and or you rule? The rpgness is strong with this one. Play their way or not at all.

Same. I swear I remember years ago they mentioned in an update this was supposed to be changed but wasn't. Did I imagine that?

They really should change that though. I want to jump right in and change up the neighborhood, not having to create a sim, move them in, then load out to the map screen, evict them, and THEN begin the renovation processes.

Agree fully that we should have the choice. This is a relic from the online roots. In those online RPG you need to first make your player character before you can play. Evidently what became TS4 had the same methodology. TS1 & 2 give you the choice.

The Sims 3 gives 3 options:
- create a new household
- move in an existing household
- play a pre-made family (if the world such as Sunset Valley or Riverview comes with families)

But, there must be one active family at all times.

It is a major upgrade from the Sims 2, in which Sims will age up by the household. Some players take advantage of this and play rotationally, then when they switch over to the Sims 3, they have to make some adjustments to their playstyles.

In my own Sims 3 game, I have set up the aging system so that 1 Sim Day = 1 Real-World Year. But, I usually disable the aging until it's ready to age up. Then, I'll just switch over to a random household and play that household until a Sim's birthday, so that the entire world can age up and progress in time. If there are 2 or more Sims with the same birthday, then I'll throw a birthday party on the same day. Afterwards, I turn off aging and resume my aging-off gameplay. This kind of playstyle would allow me to spend a good amount of time with each household in the world, earn LifeTime Rewards and help the households move up the career ladder or do stuff towards the LifeTime Wish.

Serious pet peeve for me too! The game should load into the mapview, from there you have the option of clicking on an empty lot to build, an empty house to modify, an occupied house to play that family, or create an entirely new sim to start the game with.

Sometimes I just want to check out new features from newly installed packs or patch updates. I always pull out my entire The TS4 folder and place it on my desktop when I update so the game generates an all new folder and once I know everything is working as should, I move my saves, mods, and tray files back into that new The Sims 4 folder.

So, every time a new pack comes out, I have to create a new sim just to check out the features. Irritating!

I've just started a new game to check this out.

Granted it starts in CAS and wants to make a Sim with a story but all you have to do is to say "no thanks" and you can replace the Sim in CAS with your own Sim or a Sims family from your Gallery. I have 50 plus Sim families which I use over and over again so no problem for me. It's useful if you want to add to their wardrobes too that way after a new pack.

I just stick them on an empty lot, give them some money and off we go.
