I understand the idea of the Windenburg gym, of everyone having to pass through the showers and lockers when entering or leaving the gym, but it IS very annoying.
I moved sims into a starter house in Windenburg a while ago (don't know the name) and discovered they couldn't use the kitchen. I think it was because the wall-mounted cabinets hung too low over the counters. You'd think the official houses they ship with the game would be playtested.
And Maxis builts are often just not very aesthetically pleasing, compared to player builds.
