sorry but i have to disagree with what is said in this thread the game should have more positive and less negative the sims4 might be a game but its meant to have fun and escape real life everyday worries and concern and just have fun
I agree with that for that was Wright's vision in the beginning. :) EA/Maxis is trying to please many folks that have different visions of what the game is supposed to be and sometimes it does not work very well. - Horrorgirl6Seasoned Veteran

Except you can not have fun.If everything is easy, and handed to you.It was not my point. - Horrorgirl6Seasoned Veteran

It does sometimes feel like they think people only play the game to take pictures of the Sims for Tumblr storytelling or to build lots so they can upload videos to YouTube.
There are also people who only play the game just to create mods for it. They don’t play for enjoyment.
SOME of us like to play the actual game just to play it, not just use the game to upload content on other platforms.
This is my point, it feels like it's meant to be a machinima picture simulator.Instead of a life simulator - Lonewolf1044Seasoned Spectator

It was my point and I was referring to someone else's point, of course some games are not fun if there is no challenge. You may feel the Sims is not an game if players are creating stories but it still is an game even if the player is using sims to act out their stories, it is fun and I been playing Sims since day one and I also play other games. Not everybody play the game the same way like I do not use mods in my games so if someone does that make it less of an game? - OldeSimsFanNew TravelerAre you saying that you want more depth and reality in the gameplay, more negative consequences for Sims actions, more interesting game rewards for completing aspirations? More negative/positive random events, that kind of thing?
That would be an excellent start. All that works in TS2 just fine so see no reason for it to not be in 4. "Goldmoldar;c-17882919" wrote:

I think we can agree that fun is subjective.
With regards to you point about Wright's vision for the game. My understanding is that he came up with the concept when his home was destroyed by a tornado - a significant set back in his life, something to overcome, to thrive and prosper after adversity. The key concept there, in my opinion is that the adversity is necessary, it is a feature of life and a core feature of the game, without it the game loses something fundamental. Random adversity and moments of serendipity in the game doesn't prevent you from telling your stories.- Horrorgirl6Seasoned Veteran

I think you misunderstand .I love the sims series .I have no problem with people making stories. My problem is that 4 is lacking because they made it less like a game, and focus more on appearance. - Lonewolf1044Seasoned Spectator

Part of the reason, there was an little game called "Little Computer People" which gave Wright some of his inspiration. The game was not created to reflect bad events in real life it was more of an parodied view of RL an game where players can escape from the woes of RL and have fun. Yes, fun is subjective as said EA/Maxis has an lot of players it wish to please but it sometimes do not work out as planned and that happens in most games. EA/Maxis has created an balance act in which one seeks to know why should I play Sims 4 and what makes it stand out. Some players like me have played the older versions and that is how I judge Sims 4 and I know what Sims 4 has and what it does not and for me it does not have an lot and that is my opinion. The new players cannot compare the game if they never played the older games. This as well happens in every other game outside of the Sims series. The formula has been changed too much and also it's handling of the game problems has not been handled as well as it should have been. - I think you're right that people who have just started to play the Sims 4 have no framework for comparison to the older games, but there have been multiple millions of new players worldwide since the game's humble beginnings and those people, like it or not, shape the current version of the game. The game's current demographics suggests that most player are young (under thirty) and female, hence the game's bias in terms of CAS items and the preference of the packs produced.
I have been playing the game since the very beginning and I agree that much has been lost, but some things have been improved too and not everything that's been lost is due to the new players. EA has taken ownership of the franchise, which has lead to enormous changes. This is probably the most significant influence.
I agree that play should foremost be fun, but personally, I find that too much has been taken out of the game to make it extremely fun for me.
More fun for me in the Sims 4 equates to gentle challenges and a more a realistic life context, as well as the ability to tell my stories. I'm not talking about graphic, real life horror and grit. Just more surprises good and bad, tasks and challenges, I like a little adversity, but it must be relevant and not totally random, as I noted earlier.
I think we're generally in agreement, but maybe I'm wrong. - ck213Seasoned ScoutWhat I loved about the past sims games was that even though you might go in the game with a plan to do certain things, you could find yourself going off in unexpected directions because surprising/interesting things would happen in the game.
With TS4, it's mostly, I will do this, and I do it, and... done. :|
I have to amend this.
I do believe EA wants to add things things to make the game more fun, but when they do, it sometimes turns out a mess.
NAPs being a prime example.
I was intrigued when I first heard about them, but they turned out to be my most hated feature.
Sentiments, nice, but kind of misses the mark. Stuff like this.
