@cyncie Part of the problem is that there is no such thing as a "neutral" culture. American culture is not neutral. I don't think people having disagreements about representation is such a big deal. Bigots will always complain and some discord is natural when millions of players are involved. 500 or even 1000 complaints on Twitter is absolutely nothing.
Well, I do agree with you about neutrality and all. There is always some kind of interpretation to be had. Mainly, I think EA shifted emphasis from “play with life” to “play yourself” which creates a bigger divide if not everyone feels represented. It’s personal now, and that creates a different dynamic.
I agree. Of course it's impossible not to have elements of various cultures because there is no one without a culture as far as I know. And even the other sims title didn't avoid it completely.
But for ts4 at some point they very clearly put the focus on simself, representation, diversity, inclusivity and safe spaces. I'm sure they had good intentions because these are good things when people truly adhere to their meanings. But for the reasons I stated above it's better for something like a video game or sims game to stay out of that territory and put the focus on fun, fantasy, wild imaginative stories. And focusing on the tools we need to create those imaginative wild stories.
Even if they aim to deliver us more detailed animations for example. That's something diverse that everyone can appreciate without controversy.
