Remember 'City Living'? It was one of the first few packs, and I'd generally say those first few were the most imaginative (barring some exclusions) I've seen Maxis this iteration. Compare City Living to Snowy Escape. What do those two have to do with the topic? They are the actual representations of the very thing. City Living embodied how I would see my ideal Sims 4- a parody of life, taking inspiration from various places and peoples, but having its own flare. Snowy Escape, on the other hand, embodies Maxis' attempts at "representation". It tries to really go in on one specific thing, does it with all the shallowness of a rainwater puddle on a tarp. Maxis' strength (at least this iteration) is neither blanket representation, nor deep representation. It's parody. They managed to use this to their advantage with CL, but abandoned it to what...?
That isn't to say they can't be inclusive, as their skintones, and even gender options are great...but the thing I'd love for them to focus on...the thing they are forgoing in favor of their lackluster "representation" and "inclusivity"...is what mars those two things- the stability of the game. Unisex clothing has visual issues. Skintones have genetics issues. At this point, they're just about-facing towards "inclusivity" as a cheap way to make people watch one hand, and not the other silently sweeping the game's issues and near-end into the closet that's one stuffed animal away from bursting open and flooding the room.
I won't even bring up the myriad of introduced beta-tests of features that are still awaiting updates and cross-pack integration, as they seem to do this with their "inclusivity" as well, touting: "Down the line...", "In the future...", and "This is important to us...", as though I paid as much as I have the last 7 years (even with mostly sales) for words, and not The Sims 4.
