The Sims 4 Legacy Edition Struggles

Like some other simmers, I recently received the notification that the Sims 4 was no longer supported by my old computer. No big deal. I simply download the Sims 4 Legacy Edition... But much to my dismay, all of my save files and sims were gone (all of which had accumulated over the last 4 years). I lost all of my legacies as well. To make things worse, I can't access the gallery. I am not a builder, so I am completely at a loss. I don't like any of the given houses in worlds and all of the sims I had created and downloaded are gone. I will probably not be playing the sims until I get a new computer and I don't know even think that will happen. I'm so disappointed and confused as to why this was necessary. My graphics and the game itself seemed to work just fine. I have lost so many memories and one of my favorite hobbies.

I am SOOO mad! I have a 64 bit laptop but the regular sims won't run on my laptop. I got 2 expansion packs after Christmas too which I haven't even gotten to play for a whole month yet. Not only that, but the legacy edition won't even run on my laptop. It always crashes and asks me to restart game. So now I'm out the money for the packs AND I can't even play the sims at all!! :'(

If you have a 64 bit PC you shouldn’t need the legacy edition. Is your laptop a gaming laptop? Many laptops do not meet minimum requirements to run the game. Many people here can help you if you give a little more info on both the problem you are having, as well as listing your computer specs. @DezzyFox seems fair. For PC users. What they did to the Mac users is far more worse. I have a 2011 64-bit iMac with 16GB. I play on high settings, use a lot of mods and the game barely lags. But EA decided that besides 64-bit Mac users also need to have "metal", which my Mac doesn't support. Thanks to that decision my 2012 Mac Mini is allowed to load the Sims, although the game lags terribly and is practically unplayable, but my strong 2011 iMac only has Sims 4 Legacy. Quite funny, huh?

Okay so first of all....Mac has ONLY been 64-bit, so let’s get that straight. Second of all EA didn’t decide Mac needed Metal, APPLE aka Mac’s creator decided Mac needed Metal. And whatever Metal is must affect how the Sims work so it’s required when updating to the latest OS.

I just want to add that an update like this, which very well could be a signal that the devs are moving on from 4 and moving onto 5, makes me sad. I'm sure if and when 5 comes out I'll start playing it, but it feels like everything is moving very fast. Does anyone agree or am I getting too invested in this game? I just feel like it was a big part of my childhood and I can't believe it's been as many years as it has since I first purchased it...

I agree with you for I feel Sims 4 future is already written as it is something that is not just done in an week as EA/Maxis is an business so in order to start from scratch and not just like how Sims 4 was done not exactly done from ground up it had an head start and any feature that resembled an feature from Sims 2 or 3 was scrapped. There are certain themes like some features that are not one is not able to discard from an new version regardless of what you want to call it like Seasons, University and others for the context is the same but overall it still is the same. The thing is how one applies the feature for realness as close to RL for I would never expect them to be real as it is in real life but at same time do not come half stepping. In some ways Sims 4 has diluted my taste for any new version of Sims as time does change as well as one's taste for them. For me I am not sure about Sims 5 as I am waiting for Paralives (if it makes it to completion) to see if it will perk me up for an parody life simulation. When I started playing Sims I was just leaving the Young Adult period. Sim City I was the same way for Sim City 2013 left me not too happy to play it even the older versions. I hope they are able to bring back the true magic that made the Sims series fun to play. :)
  • I have been playing sims 4 for a while now and I got a notification I needed legacy edition so I downloaded it. I lost all my saves! I got the tray files from the sims 4 folder and when I tried to use the lots, rooms and households I got a message saying I couldn't use them because they were made with a different version of the game. I am so disappointed in EA for doing this. I had to rebuild and remake everything. I had saved a bunch of stuff to the gallery that I can't find because the feature was removed.

@milcahkang I had the same issue for a few days but I got really lucky and the game started working again
  • Hello, Im wondering if anyone could help me. Recently since I've had to download legacy my mods aren't working. As soon as I check of allow script mods and come back my game doesn't load at all. I can play if i don't allow script mods, but honestly sims 4 isn't fun without mods and cc. Has anyone had this problem? I play on a 2011 macbook and have the following mods: wicked whims, basemental/drugs, life drama, and extreme violence. Only the drugs mod somewhat works but everything else doesn't work. I know the mods aren't outdated too since my sister on a newer macbook model has been able to use the same mods perfectly fine. Can anyone help me on this issue or has solved it?

Thank you, how exactly do I do this?

Ok, thank you for the help!
