With the success of Sims 4, I honestly don't see EA attempting to cater to Sims 2 and 3 fan bases anymore.
I know it sounds harsh but it's just not feasible for many reasons. It's the natural process of a long running franchise.
Whether it’s Sims 2/3 fans or Sims 4 fans, there did seem to be a backlash on the lack of toddler thing...And the devs did end up including them, eventually. And the gurus did say they are listening to feedback, and I saw lots of feedback that was similar, whether a Sims 4 fan or whatever.
A life simulator / sandbox game would still have all sorts of fans demanding for the same kinds of stuff: toddlers, seasons, pools, retail, restaurants, pets, etc.
I really didn’t see a difference in the feedback. Many simmers, old and new, seem to want some similar things and want lots of content in a Sims game, regardless of whatever iteration it is.
With Sims 5, I feel that even Sims 4 fans will want more and more varied content than the previous edition. Why else would I buy a new game sequel if it’s not going to add on top of previous game—or even provide the base stuff from the previous game?
For example, I would expect Sims 5 to have toddlers at base game.
