I was extremely harsh about TS3 rabbit holes in the base because there were only three or four open lots possible in the base IIRC. Museum, Library, and Gyms (?). No bars, restaurants, nightclubs, shopping centers, etc. Oh, and don't forget an overload (in my opinion) of park recreation without much to do in them. :/
However, career rabbit holes were not a bad idea, since Sims just walk off a lot in TS1 and TS2. But it wasn't the rabbit hole itself that bothered me, I didn't want to even see or hear my Sims when they have to go to work. Yes, I want rid of them, lol. I didn't want to have to care for any Sim while I was taking care of a Sim still at home. With rabbit holes as actual buildings it was annoying to me that I hadn't actually gotten rid of some of the Sims in the home and they were still in the world. lol I wanted them to go off world. Color me weird but I liked it that way to get some Sims out of my hair and they stay off world until an appointed time to come home. And of course I was peeved for not even having a place to shop for clothes, and or groceries like in TS2's base. (Open lots).
But I was still in aw of watching townies/neighbors leaving their homes and going off to work or the grocery store, so I stuck with that base until they decided to make WA, and I quit for a very long time. Until LN, I think. Or maybe it was a pre generation patch to check out the memory system in that patch, which I found disappointing. Then maybe I waited til LN or vice versa.
