So I know that a lot of times it is easy to focus on the negative. But once I accidentally went way back in a thread and read all these things that people were asking for, I wondered why people were asking for them when they are already available. Then I realized - those posts were from the past, and they are available because back then, people asked for them! So my memory is pretty terrible due to a disability, and I don't remember all of the things I read, but I know there were a lot that I read, and there are a lot that exist that I didn't read! So, what are the things that you guys remember, that people asked for in the past, that the team added to the game? Weather? Infants? Toddlers? You know, even small things like, I noticed they added dimples in a semi-recent update, and there were a few people who mentioned wanting dimples (including me) before that. So! What things do you recall? And what things are you thankful for?
Maybe we can give little shout outs to the team for all the work they put in, to try to make everyone happy.
I am so excited to see all of these things listed!!
Hey one thing lol, this is just a point of interest that has nothing to do with the topic but I think it's interesting / cool - so my partner makes video games, specifically virtual reality, augmented reality, and extended reality, very cool stuff. So actually devs are only one part of the bigger team that makes video games! There are also designers, artists, programmers, etc. They all have to work together, sometimes they butt heads lol, for example if the devs want to use a technology that is too advanced for the game (understandable, they get excited) and the designers have to come in and say, hey, this isn't going to work, if we use this the game won't be able to function. Just think of how much the artists and designers do, how much the programmers do, yup how much the devs do, I'm sorry that I don't remember the other parts of the bigger team, if anyone else knows you can mention them! I know that everyone is using the word devs as kind of a catch-all but I just thought, maybe some people would think it is as cool as I do, how many people and how much it takes to make a video game.
Good point Fuji. Yes so many are involved that do not get enough credit, and most don't even think about when they think of game development! I think we kind of use dev collectivly though because to list them all in every conversation is a bit much lol ?️??️ But my thanks goes out to all of them!
I remember seeing requests for laundry, bunk beds and vacuum cleaners. A lot of the foods, too.
Diversity for darker skin tones and hair textures, which we get more consistently now, and sexuality.
Farming was a huge request for a while, including crops and animals.
Even some of the world themes and climates were requested. Mediterranean, east Asian, tropical island with swimming and mermaids, and snow sports and activities.
Various hobbies have been requested and we got knitting and embroidery, puzzles and I think a couple others.
I think terrain tools and pond tools and curved walls were requested from a lot of builders.
So many requests have been fulfilled. You know, I remember when Sim Guru Grant made a big "hint" announcement on Twitter at about the third year into the game. He was making a statement about how Sims 4 was getting ready for it's next leg of development and it was going to make a LOT of people happy. He followed it up with something like, "Seriously, guys. ALL THE THINGS." I remember thinking that was a big deal coming from him. But he wasn't kidding, lol.
I cheated with my list. I went through some of the earlier patch notes. :p It's amazing how much free content and updates have been been added to the game.
I’ve asked for varying compatibility between sims based on their personalities and interests. Many have asked for a reorganization of the social menus. ETA: I’ve asked for ways to use the Get to Work harvestables from Sixam and they added the pizza with UFO fruit in Home Chef Hustle. It’s amazing to think of all the updates over the years. I’m glad I did not completely give up on this game.
I actively joined and began to request features on this forum in 2020, during lockdown. At the time I felt similar to a wild, hairy beast in a cage, so I suppose the feature that I was most...let's just say passionate about, was:
Werebeasts. :D I absolutely love the Werewolves pack! Werewolves are all the rage in my game.
Bodyhair Menu! In my opinion, male sims were lacking on multiple levels, the most obvious one being bodyhair. I can still hear myself incessantly moaning about it, both in my head and out loud. I remember the release of a male miniskirt kit before we got bodyhair...moaned about that too. I say no more. Anyway, all turned out OK in the end, both males and females are well covered these days.
Shaving. I always wished to shave my gentlemen’s beards and then grow ‘em back again, or just let them grow wild when there’s no opportunity for them to shave during their many manly adventures. Now I can. I love, love this feature and I use it a lot. I’m happy that we’ve been getting more facial hair lately, although we could do with a lot more. My sim guys shave more often than I do, it’s a (hmm..sad) fact. I invested in High School Years just for the ability to shave. I don’t care much for high school, but shaving? Man, I should have been a barber IRL.
Custom Ceilings. This update made me very happy. I occasionally play in 1st person, plus I take screenshots in cinema mode. I found the white ceilings to be incredibly immersion breaking, but that's no longer the case. I can finally look up without getting utterly blinded by bright squares. My poor sensitive little eyes are grateful for this update.
”Happy Haunts” (PART I). I voted for this pack. They partly delivered with Paranormal, which is my favorite Stuffpack. I’m still holding out hope for that ghoulish Grim career.
Star Wars. Yes I did ask for Star Wars. No I don't regret it. I will never regret it. May the scoundrels be with us.
Horses in a Wild West World. I specifically asked for horses in a Wild West Horse. Wild Horse West. Wild Worse Vest. The horses world is one of my favorite worlds, even though I wish the desert / canyon area was 5 - 10 times larger.
Grunge. I will always ask for more grunge and derelict stuff. Not only did we get some of this with Werewolves and the Grunge kit, we also got many grungy BB items across various other packs and kits. I bought Bust the Dust, not because I’m all into vacuum cleaners and cleaning (my goodness) NO! I just love the dust effect. It’s excellent. Busting the dust? Me peach. I don’t want most of my sims and builds to look too clean. I’ve been clearing my CC folders as we’re getting more grungy stuff. Looking forward to having moldy auld kitchens and fungi covered bathrooms.
Stuff I asked for but I'm still patiently waiting for:
