Wild toddlers can definitely be a handful.
-- You're probably better off leaving the food on a table or counter and letting the toddler pick up the food and eat instead of using the high chair. They will take it to a chair to eat or even sit on floor and they never throw food to make a mess when in a chair or on floor.
-- You mentioned them not staying in the bath. Do you have a baby in the house too? There's a bug where you can't bathe toddlers with a baby in the house. The workaround is to go into buy mode, move the crib outside during the bath, and then you can bathe the toddler...and then move the crib back inside after the bath.
-- Also, the grandparents might not help you much. If a toddler calls out for some help from an adult, it will override anything that adult is queued to do, even if autonomy is off for that sim. So you have to keep an eye on the sim queue to click off an "check toddler" actions that pop up. More adults just means more people for the toddler to demand help from. You might have a hard time keeping him in a high chair if he's got 4 people he can call to get him out.
-- As for the nightmare moodlet, that tends to stay for a few hours after bed. They don't automatically start crying though. They may break down and cry at any point when sad. If they stay sad for awhile, they will continue to cry periodically. So it's not that he is crying because he had a nightmare....he's crying because he's sad and the nightmare is what caused him to go into a sad mood. Try playing with him to get him out of the sad mood.
