When the toddler patch was first released, I was completely overwhelmed, they were more needier than the babies, but they were able to get into stuff! So I think we were all overwhelmed when we first played with toddlers! What I do is make sure that they are able to do stuff themselves, make sure that, like what the other poster's have said, that you have fruit salad available. You don't need highchairs, they will find a place to sit and eat it themselves. They will find a place to nap, or even go to sleep in their own bed if they are tired. Make sure to have a play area (or room!) that they have access too, you can place the dollhouse, the tablet and just a toy box, and they'll be busy. You can hire a nanny to come over, even if your sim is home. This helps me when I have multiples. Try to work on their skills whenever you have free time. Going to the potty is probably the most important skill. They'll go on their own. I also set up a routine for my sims usually. The toddlers are in bed at 8, so after dinner (about 5:30) my kid sims will be doing homework, the toddler sims will take bathes, and be read a book to sleep.
Generally after you get the hang of it, the toddler's can pretty much be independent for the most part, or you can have them figure stuff out, so you don't have to constantly be waiting for them to cry or something(: They are a great addition to the game(:
