Toddler didn't get needs taken care of while my sim was at work. Now toddler is gone RIP

My sims don't seem to take care of themselves when a sim is away from the lot lately. So my toddler was the first casualty of this bug. (I guess it's a bug?). Hopefully I can cheat her back into the family ugh.

  • You need to reselect the care for self action semi-regularly for them.

Bienchen ran through exactly how the game handles taking care of sims left at home. FIrstly, it does not actually simulate what they are doing. The cliff note version is pretty much that care for self slowly fills one need at a time, whichever is lowest when you select the action. And it does NOT switch to another one until that one is completely full. This means some other needs may likely plummet into red while the one need is still being filled.

By reselecting the care for self action, you get the game to switch to whichever need is lowest rather than continuing to fill whatever one it was working on.

Additionally, sometimes it doesn't start doing the care actions at all unless you select it....even if it indicates that is what the sim is doing. So make sure you always toggle the action right away as well, when leaving sims alone. The game itself will have them doing literally nothing at all sometimes if you don't.

Edit: wish I could find the original thread bienchen posted in. She explained it really well and has written some away-action mods, so obviously worked through the EA scripts for the process and understand exactly what the game is doing. I think I summarized it pretty accurately though.
  • It's weird cause I've never had this be an issue until a recent patch. Coming back to sims with full red bars has been a major hassle. And mccc's neglected child script hasn't kicked in yet so still waiting for my toddler to show up. She may be gone though.
  • I’ve noticed this as well the sims on my home lot while I’m at the science center with a different sim take forever to take care of their needs when this had never really been an issue for me before. I have had this problem with sending toddlers to daycare (they come home completely in the red) but not on the home lot before the Get Famous patch. Yeah they’re always a bit slow but they’d never get completely in the red before.
  • Yes, it's been like that since a couple of patches ago. It is really annoying.
For kids to adults as @Stormkeep says, you can click on the care for self action but unfortunately, toddlers don't have that option.

  • this started to be an issue for me as well after the get famous patch. before that everyone took care of themselves and toddlers were taking care of. but now i have to click on each sim to take care of themselves because they dont do it automatic. but it doesnt work with toddlers. so i just have to keep making sure that at least the toddler is being fed. if not i have to send a sim home and switch to the home lot to feed the toddler. i hope it gets fixed soon.
  • A couple patches ago I noticed it as well. I dont really like to cheat in my game but I started cheating to fill their needs I got so annoyed.

You think that's bad, I had to cheat to recreate the child that got taken. Now there's a "fake" double of the child in the family tree cause I just accelerated the pregnancy and then aged her out of toddler age since she would probably be child aged since I was hoping MCCC would adopt her into another family. Problem somewhat averted though. But yeah the needs problem is bad when you can potentially lose your toddlers for neglect. It's not as bad when you come back and a sim pees themselves because they forgot what a toilet was while you were away.
  • my toddlers do not have the self care option. It's just "bring here". :/

Hi @poisonedsodapop, we are consolidating all bug reports and tech issues on AHQ to better track them. Could you pop into the AHQ threads Rosemow has linked and select 'Me Too' to show you've also experienced this bug. In the meantime, I'll close this thread.
