University Degree career boosts are quite high! Thoughts?

Carl's Sims Guide is showing every boost you get from graduating with either a regular degree or a distinguished one! I am surprised by how high you start. For example, some you can start at level 7 and 8! Not to mention signing bonuses and so forth!!! Here is a link that shows everything you get with the 2 types of art degrees if you want to look for yourself: https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/expansionpacks/discoveruniversity/degrees/arthistory.php

Thoughts on these boosts?? Do you think that is perfect reward for attending university? Do you think the boosts are too high?

    Really???! That's wayyyyyy too high!

TS4 isn’t like the older games anyway. Being level 10 in a career means very little since you can continue to get promoted as many times as you like. If your Sim start at level 10, they can probably reach something crazy like +10 or +20 overmax levels.

Another great point! I think the only career I've ever reached level 10 in was the Athletics one and I didn't even pay attention to if you could overmax! That makes things much better!

Eh, it’s sort of realistic. If you think of distinguished as like a Master’s degree.

For some perspective on what you get for spending a lot of the Young Adult state with aging on Standard at University and what you can access without that, starting at the beginning of being YA, here are the levels in the Education Career. Once it branches out, the jobs are university jobs in nature. The * marks levels you need a Standard, Honors, or Distinguished Honors degree for. Any other job you could hold while at university as well, so (with some planning or career cheats) you could be an Instructor, say, while still a student.

    Education Career
    1 Substitute Teacher
    2 Teaching Assistant
    3 Teacher
    4 Mentor Teacher
    5 Department Head

    Administrator Branch
    degree: Economics
    *6 Student Services Officer
    *7 Dean of Admissions
    *8 Director of Academics
    9 Vice-Chancellor
    10 Head Chancellor

    Professor Branch
    degree: Psychology
    6 Intrepid Instructor
    7 Lead Lecturer
    *8 Adjunct Professor
    *9 Tenured Professor
    *10 Master Educator

Early Access courtesy of the EA Game Changers Program.

FWIW, Carl has the info on what different degrees get you. @EmmaVane has a Q&A thread that includes that plus what two student organizations boost in careers. I've compiled that somewhat and also have the job names of the new careers (as of just now).

    Yeah I read them.
  • It would be a waste of time if all degrees did was just give your sim more money. Im honestly fine with it. I really wouldnt want my sim with a distinguished degree to still have to start at the bottom.
  • I think it's an incentive for kids and teens to gain other skills and not just do homework. Currently, mine mostly just plonk away at homework, now they have to think about if they need to be gaining other skills as well.

It's also a way for them to earn more money for longer and to pay for any expensive lifestyle without cheats if you do slow down aging or play on a longer span.

I like having different households with different levels of income and I don't mind some of them being well-off. Now, some of them will be more professional. I'm all for rags to riches and I sometimes play with sims who scrap along but sometimes it is nice to play ones who earn more.

I've currently booted him out of my game but the cult leader with a bunch of money is a different type of wealthy than a successful judge or professor. My wealthiest sims actually do need more to do, why not educate their offspring expensively like real ones do?

You can also now play that child of wealthy parents who slacks off vs. the hardworking kid who won scholarships.

I don't think it's about making the game easier but adding a different type of gameplay. I have wealthy jet-setter sims and sims in trailers and little starter bungalows who don't want to leave their home world. I've got a runaway teen scraping by, no idea if she or the other poorer sims will go to university. It'll be one more divider between her and other sims.
  • I think the boost for the distinguished degrees is great! However, I wish the boost for the non distinguished ones was lower. I mean, it seems quite hard to be accepted at a distinguished degree, and the difference to a normal one's boost is not that big (only 1 career level). But I'm not complaining.
  • I rarely get my sims to the top, so I'm happy about it. Literally all my sims end up making it to like level 3 or 4 of they are lucky and then hit elder age. Very boring. I agree about the difference though. A regular degree should get you to like level 5. A distinguished degree should get you to like 7/8.
  • I'm personally glad they give such a high boost. Considering that getting an A in high school already takes you to level 3, I feel like they needed to be high in order for it to feel worthwhile to go. Other than for the experience, of course. :)
