I don’t think this is necessarily caused by mods because I played vanilla for a long time and sims getting water too often was a problem. And by too often I mean: them doing it at all is too often for a sim who doesn’t even need water in the first place.

This isn't a mod issue. What you need is a mod to turn off the autonomy for getting water, it's tuned way, way too high.

so much for smarter sims :D

It's a bug that's been in the game for at least 6 years. Playing a different household for a few seconds makes it stop. When you go back to your household they shouldn't be water bugged anymore.
