Welcome Wagon: Why Fruitcake?

You know, I think I would like the welcome wagon a lot more if the neighbors didn't always insist on bringing a fruitcake with them. Why couldn't it have been something tasty like cookies, a cake, anything but fruitcake! And no, I don't particularly like cancelling the event either, because it always results in a really petty relationship loss with ALL of the neighbors. "Guess we're not wanted here," they say. Not when you have a fruitcake, I don't! Seriously, I've never once had a sim who actually LIKES fruitcake. Not to mention that bug where the reaction for fruitcake gets stuck for all foods after a Sim eats it.

I actually ended up installing a mod that disables the welcome wagon entirely.

Thanks for the mod, I hate the welcome wagon. Most of the time I just ignore them until they're gone but removing it is better.

You don't need a mod to avoid the Welcome Wagon. Just set your lot trait to Private Dwelling BEFORE you move your household in for the first time and voilĂ ! Your neighbors won't show up at all.

I moved about 3-4 households into the lots that I built with the Private Dwelling lot trait and every time the Welcome Wagon didn't start in the first 24-48 hours, so I had suspicions about it, tested it in a brand new save on different lots with and without Private Dwelling, and yup the lot trait caused it to not happen at all. Which is a pleasant surprise for me.

Edited: If you don't want to use the Private Dwelling lot trait because you prefer to play with other traits, just replace/delete it after a day or two when you're sure the neighbors won't show up, I like the trait because with Private Dwelling enabled, my sims receive less of unwanted visitors/random sims knocking on the door/vampires breaking in.

Whoa, I didn't know this! Thanks for the tip!
