I like my sims to have high cooking, gardening and handiness skills. It makes their lives much easier and they can enjoy their lives more.

Cooking and Gardening. My favorite skills to develop.

Cooking: less fires and more meal options
Gardening : the ability to fertilise plants but I dislike the level that stops the animation to weed by hands.
Handiness : enough to upgrade beds
Parenting : I like to see the outcome of parenting pop ups
Not exactly a skill but I like to level up spellcasters and werewolves to the point where all perks are available as an option

Top skill for all families with cats and dogs:
Veterinary
I'm a rotational player and as soon as I switch to a household with a cat/dog, it's sick -.-
And since we tell stories without mods, cc and poses they all have the:
Acting Skill
to add a little variety
We won't be without horses anymore, so the
Riding Skill
it is 🐎
And each of them has the
Handiness Skill
maxed for instant upgrades and to upgrade the neon signs so they don't break in the rain.
They are neon signs, made for the outdoors, why do they break in the rain? 😭
It's such a hassle.

Here Jack wrote that the Mosquito Trap reminds him of Saiwa because of their cute teeth ^^'
