What causes walls to disappear in live mode even when full walls are selected?

I have this great community lot I found on the gallery but it, and others I've found recently have this weird glitch. If I stay zoomed out and keep the camera tilted down all of the walls are fully visible...

...but if I tilt the camera down even slightly the walls disappear entirely...

I'm use the Sims 3 camera, but this happens even if I use the Sims 4 camera. I have the floor up selector all the way up to the top floor, but like the camera it doesn't make any difference which floor I select. I have all graphics options on and maxed out. It doesn't happen with every lot, only large heavily detailed community lots and it's only in live mode. I can work around it by pausing and going into build mode and getting the screenshots of my sims and then go back to live until I'm ready to take another shot.

I'm wondering if there's something in the 'GraphicsRules' file that I can edit to stop the game from doing this. In case that file doesn't sound familiar I play on a Mac so the files in my game folder are a bit different than what PC users see in their games. I'm still hopeful that a fix can be found for this problem so I don't have to use that clunky workaround.

BTW, the lot in question is called Music Festival and it was created by Simproved.

  • Odd, the only time I get this is by moving in too close, not at a distance. In addition to the floor setting, do you have the walls fully up as well?
  • That's pretty weird. Is it a draw distance thing? If you move the camera closer (not zoom, move) do they pop back into sight?
  • Thank you for the replies @Oldeseadogge and @StuffyMarx

I just figured out what was causing that but that creates a new puzzling question. The cause was the lot type was affecting the camera. I placed that on the Chateau Peak lot in DSV. In my rush placing it I didn't change the lot type when it asked me too while I was placing it so it was still set for residential instead of generic. Once I changed it that solved the disappearing walls thing.

Now that makes me wonder why does the lot type matter? The way the problem shows itself it's like it's an LOD issue. It's like the game has a limit on how many polygons can be viewed or rendered according to the lot type chosen. In these first two shots there isn't a huge amount of detail so I can get the camera fairly close to ground level before things start disappearing...

...but when I turn it around and aim it towards an area with a crazy level of details things disappear with the camera still at a high angle.

  • Sorry @Lenny_Ogg I didn't refresh the page so I missed your post.

The lot is cc free except for the Pride flags I placed. I thought it was a crazy cool lot for not using any cc at all!

Same in any residential lot, small or big :)
Walls , some floors and furniture disappear if you move too close. After your sim has knocked the door and asked to come in, all is visible again :)
  • I traveled there with a group of 6 sims. I don’t recall having these issues until recently. Like a recent update may have changed something or maybe I just haven’t had the right lot installed to cause it to show up. That lot has a lot of details and when I position the camera by the stage and turn it to face back towards the entrance it’s a crazy amount of detail.

I’m still a bit puzzled by how changing the lot type solved the problem. Once I set it to generic everything shows no matter what I do with the camera. This game can be so odd at times.
  • @DaniRose2143 , like I said above it has been so since beginning, when visiting other residential lots in live mode :) All vanish untill you are invited in :) And in this case there was nobody living there to invite them in :)
  • columns also disappear on all lots even if the walls are up which drives me crazy with cool builds full of columns
but yeah whole building going missing is cause you had not knocked the door
