You don't have to load into their lot or anything. There's got to be an easy way to see it from Manage Households as well.
For the home birth, that's got to be a mod of some sort.
For the other stuff, I think we all have our own way of getting our imaginations involved in what our sims are doing. I tend to pretty much just play the game, sometimes with a goal or idea in mind, sometimes not, but I'm always imagining what they are thinking and feeling, often imagining what they're saying in their conversations.
Many people go further and essentially use the game as a way to visualize stories they're writing.
I forgot about the lot info panel in World Mode! Thanks for the reminder.
I play a lot like you. If something unique or interesting happens, I run with it. If not, I play until it does. That's how Aaron and Malcolm came to be. It was a total coincidental scenario I hadn't even imagined would happen.
