I may be alone in this idea here, but am I the only one who kind of doesn't like how even though TS4 introduced a mood system, your sims are always just as happy and bubbly as they usually were in the previous games, if not more often than usual? Something I've kind of thought about for a while, aside from a whole overhaul of the system, is if the Happy and Very Happy emotions were changed to Content = Happy, and Happy = Very Happy. A lot of basic need filling in the Sims series will make your sims overwhelming jump for joy when really... you're just stopping them from not dying. It'd make a lot more sense to delegate 'happy' to be a response to much less mundane things, in my opinion. I've had a few sims with the "Cheery" trait and there's literally no difference between how many times they're happy compared to sims without it, it's a little insane to me. Anybody else kind of share this sentiment?

I've actually complained about this a few times in feedback. Happy is actually the default emotion, when it would make much more sense for it to be Fine. So Sims start the game off already in a "winning" state, which causes emotional imbalance from the getgo. They also get happy buffs just from having their needs full, eating a good meal, and being in a decorated room. It's happiness overkill. They're always smiling. The game absolutely could use an emotions overhaul, and then they could also put in the missing Fear emotion too and make things right.

What if "Happy" was changed to "Content"?

Agree, sims are too happy. If you're chill with mods I've seen one that changes happy to fine and very happy to happy but idk where to find it, sorry. You also might be interested in the emotional inertia mod (on MTS).

roBurky has mods that do exactly that, like Emotional Inertia, Uncomfortable Overhaul, Variable Emotional Traits, True Happiness.
I play with the first 3 (because True Happiness doesn't like the game in french) and TS4 is actually fun to play now.
Add in a mod to remove happiness from decor (roBurky also has that, though it's not the one I use) and you're set.

I think all of these are to be combined into a super mod in the near future too.

(This sounds like a promo but I don't know them, I just really appreaciate their mods)

That sounds awesome! Hopefully they will be able to update those after the next patch. I think I've used one of roBurky's mods before. I plan to get some good stuff after giving creators some time to get their mods updated.

Same I hated sims 4 until I found mods that fixed the sims. True happiness really makes it meaningful when sims are happy.

Those mods along with personality please makes the game feel like a true sims game. My sins now have personality and their moods last and effect them

I have learned to not do what ifs - until they make it an option. I hate disappointments. LOL Worse yet I hate even worse having hopes things will change that never happen.

One day at a time - as everytime I count on something it back fires. So I give up. I dared to dream and plan with get famous and got disappointed.

I guess Take it the way it is - and fret less. Hopefully. Still miffed though.... No more what ifs...

I think it does make sense, since contentment is more of a persistent state than happiness. Maybe they should put an emphasis on the Fine emotion and save Happy for the bigger things in life.
