I can only sign what @SimsLovinLycan and @Chicklet453681 said, this is my major gripe, too. The Sims is turning into a generic game where a single protagonist explores an existing setting and helps npcs achieve their own goals. I find that sad, because what made The Sims unique is getting more and more lost this way.
Since StrangerVille was mentioned, I never felt that it was a story pack in the sense of Pet Stories or Life Stories. There were a few key moments that you could hit and that would then trigger changes in the world, but it is very easy to slot the StrangerVille module into your own setting and ongoing story. To me StrangerVilleis a story pack done right, compareable to my favorite spinoff, Sims Castaway for PS2.
