What I've Been Working On . . .

Since we have anothe patch coming on 19 August, I decided to hold off playing my Main Save since who knows what will become of some of my most-needed mods.

I do have another save, the main character having been the one to play the latest pack-related challenge, if you will.

So, since I put this save together, originally, in a rather haphazard, slap-dash as my English cousin would call it. I am now taking it more seriously. My game is set in the 1700s when our country would end up starting a revolutionary war, to throw off the stictures and tyrannical governance by the Brithish King.

To that end, some left the Colony of Virginia (which at that time was still in one piece), to the Settlements (as they were called) three-hundred miles southwest of the Shenandoah Valley. There were no smooth paved roads at this time. Just uneven dirt lanes that were more or less created as hunting paths by the Shawnee and/or Cherokee. Imagine taking a long wagon ride down the Great Wagon Road, as it was called in Virginia.

When they arrived at the Settlements on the Island of the Holston (not Holstein, it's not a cow). I have been there and I have seen this river.  The Settlers had the task of felling trees and building a dwelling for them to live in. Many of these weren't very large. They also had to plant so they would have food to survive. No corner market to get supplies.

So, in order to set up this save properly, I am taking this in between time to build some of these structures.  Many of the buildings in Virginia, proper, started out as cabins, but then were plastered over and actually look like very fine buildings.

This is my 7th great-grandfather's house, called Toll House Farm, since he had

mills and would grind wheat  for shipment (they each had to ship 12% I think it was, to England. Also they ground corn into cornmeal for the same reason. They learned the products didn't spoil as easily once ground. At any rate, Valentine's task was to collect the toll form each customer --- you got it. This toll was also sent to England. And we dare complain about taxes nowadays!

At any rate, I have some pictures to share.

First off: Toll House Farm, built somewhere between 1742- 1744 when he brought his wife to live there. He sold it in anticipation of heading south. The L-shape part of this house is the orignal.

This tiny picture was taken at Marble Springs Tennessee State Park, to give you a notion of just how crude the buildings were in the Settlements. This building was the last home of the very first Governor of Tennessee, established in 1796

Now, to share with you a couple of builds I have worked on. My favorite one, so far, is the Trading Post I just built this afternoon.

Settler's Cabin -1 It was the habit of these early Farmsteaders to allow their animals to be what we call free-range. It was their crops they safe-guarded with a fence.

 Settler's Cabin-2

Settler's Business Trading Post: "Please, come on it."

All for now.

Please share pictures of your latest buildings.

  • It was great reading about the save that you are working on 🙂 Settlers Cabin and the Traders Post are great builds for the save!  Very nice layout and design of the interior of the Traders Post. The displays of items to buy on the shelves and walls are very nice. The warm brown log walls are great.

Thank you so much. I did my best to depict the cabins as they likely were, with a few exceptions, since the game won't allow for food to be prepared on a table, but must be a counter. Also, we don't have what is called a loophole. The Settlers dared not use windows, since the relationship with the Cherokee was hinky, at best.  I used the brick window with slots, instead. One had to have a way to slip the barrel of their guns through to defend themselves.
