For me, it depends on how I feel. When I am more inspired, I will build houses or create sims. When I am not very inspired, I will play out my sims. I am currently trying to get a few people out of those starter homes and into nicer houses. The Alto apartments and Landgraab apartments are pretty expensive.
@Anthonydyer I'm in a similar situation in my save, but I'm also quickly running out of lots as they are all full, or not what a growing family is looking for. I desperately need a new world I can fill up far too quickly. - A lot of my Sims are characters from the stories I have written over the years. Kind of fun to see them moving around in real life, doing nothing in particular.
I was working on a runaway teen saga that was kinda fun. He lived in an old garage by himself. Had a labor job and excelled in school. Ended up building up quite a nest egg from the Political career. Took a break to go explore the jungles and learn archaeology.
I also reimagined many of the Sunset Valley families and townies from Sims 3, which has resulted in some really fun play.
Btw hope you are feeling better  - Get well soon. :)
Like others, I tend to make up a storyline and go for it. Right now I'm rotating between three families:
The Thornes (Tristan and Yvaine) -- they just moved out to Tristan's great-great uncle's old farm which Tristan mysteriously inherited. It has a bouse and a barn but both were pretty much gutted while the house sat vacant so they have to furnish and decorate while getting the rarm started. Tristan is currently a secret agent but once Seasons launches he'll be quitting his job to start the Gardening career, likely the Botanist branch. Yvaine is in the Business career but supplements her income with painting, and will do floral arranging as a hobby as well. They have twin boys, Ashton and Albert -- Ashton is going to be the good son while Albert is a holy terror (I named Albert after my older brother hee hee hee :D ).
The O'Dourkes (Liam and Cali) -- Cali West ran away from Roaring Heights to escape an arranged marriage, and settled in San Myshuno with the twenty thousand Simoleons her family lawyer was able to sneak out of the trust account. She met and became friends with Liam O'Dourke, and that friendship quickly blossomed into romance after she aged up. I'm planning a semi legacy to complete as many collections as possible over the generations; she's already completed the city poster collection and is one snowglobe away from that collection. Liam and Cali have one child so far, daughter Selena who will be the heir and stay in the family home to continue working on the collections. I may have to cheat the special ones (eggs, skulls, Plantsim berries) but I'll do that after I finish all the others.
The Clines (Gerald and Danielle) -- Brother and sister that are sharing a house in Oasis Springs while raising Vela, Geralds daughter from alien abduction. No real storyline just yet.
Oh and I just had an idea of a fourth family -- in homor of Pride I'm going to create a transgender couple, one female to male but he can still get pregnant, the other female to male so can still impregnate (they're waiting for surgery till they have their family). I'll start them in a San Myshuno apartment then they can move on to a house in Willow Creek or Newcrest, or possibly Brindleton Bay. - anthonydyer8 years agoSeasoned Ace

@ShadyLady89 Exactly! I would like some additional worlds. I'm running out of space also. I've already knocked down a few useless houses and taken away some redundant community lots. I'm even evicting a few premade sims that I don't like. (sorry). Take a look at my post regarding world suggestions here. Some lots like the 20x20 lots are useless to me because they are too small to build houses on. "Anthonydyer;c-16511977" wrote:

What size houses do you usually go for?
I have been able to successfully build several houses that fit comfortably into the 15x20 and 20x20 lots. The are actually some of my favorite houses to play because they kind of maximize living in a small amount of space. When you're sim decides to wash their dishes at a sink in the back of the house, instead of the kitchen, these houses save some steps.
Basements also help with these kind of houses, to nearly double the living space."Anthonydyer;c-16511977" wrote:

For me it kind of depends on my mood. But I tend to have a story line or a backstory...& then the rest is game-driven events.
I started getting into the challenges, & those are so fun. Right now I'm playing the Not So Berry Legacy Challenge, which I've fallen in love with. I'm in generation 3 about to go into 4....& I've been able to do some storytelling without diverting from the rules. When I'm in the mood for kids....I play the 100 baby challenge....as that challenge is so hard. I also have a Rags to Riches Save which is always fun to have your Sim start out with nothing & work there way up. I usually have a backstory for the main character, but the rest is just survival...and a little storytelling. & then when I'm wanting something out of the box, I go to my vampire Save. Supernatural gameplay is so fun too :) - anthonydyer8 years agoSeasoned Ace@ShaddBoi I need a minimum of 30x20, preferably 30x30 or 40x40. I like to build big! My specialty is the New American House. They are big, wide, and beautiful. These houses are what you find in wealthy American suburbs.

@Anthonydyer Gotcha. I think I know what you're talking about. Those are pretty awesome houses.
A lot of the ones I was referring to are 1920s catalog homes, built from classic plans from those catalogs. They are all unique in their own way, and add a bit of nostalgia and tradition to the neighborhoods. The bulk of my willow creek lots are these types of houses.- anthonydyer8 years agoSeasoned Ace@ShaddBoi Is that a craftsman or bungalow? Those houses can be rather cozy. I think both are associated with the 1920s. Feel free to browse my gallery. I've uploaded a bunch of neat houses.
