Anyways, a lot of the actual lore is ambiguous, but considering how Abyssal Plains in the deep sea are like deserts in the darkest depths of the ocean.
I am using it in my story to refer to a kind of purgatory for souls lost at sea and the dwelling place of the most dangerous sea monsters. The Souls lost to Davy Jones Locker would likely wander in the eternally dark depths with nothing but miles of sand beneath the ocean. They would never see the light of day. They’d just wander endlessly in the dark, occasionally finding a sunken shipwreck or the remains of large sea creatures.
It’s a place of death, darkness, sea monsters, and where the souls of those who drown gather. These things are pretty close to what you might actually find in an abyssal plain too. So, I am using real and observable conditions in the sea to inform my depiction of the place.
