What sort of worlds/neighbourhoods should a prospective 'The Sims 5' have?

  • I'd like to see a semi-open Sims 4 style blended with the large open world like sims 3, but with the world MUCH bigger than Sims 3.
By blended, I mean the actively loaded area would be similar to what we have with 4, but the game would dynamically load new areas as you traveled, so you don't actually have to go to a travel or loading screen (unless you want to fast-travel).

On a technical level, it's totally possible for them to do this, and from a performance standpoint it would be better than what TS3 did while also giving the illusion of a very large open world. This is the kind of technology used in many large-scale open world RPG's....if World of Warcraft could do it a decade+ ago, the Sims can do it.

Open neighbourhood makes some sort of sense. Something that is more than what ts4 has, but is less than ts3. Maybe an open neighbourhood of up to ten or twelve lots? So you can visit your neighbours without a loading screen, and visit local community lots without a loading screen, but you will have a loading screen if you travel to anywhere outside the neighbourhood.

Then again, other games have fully open worlds...
  • ''An Open Neighbourhood where there are no loading screens unless you go to a different area of the world.''

Best of both worlds really. They should have done this with The Sims 4 already, but nope.

I really miss being able to see my neighbors going about their day. Leaving for work, coming home, gardening, playing in the (back)yard etc.
I still can't get over it how dull and dead the surrounding lots are, even though the furniture is fully loaded...

  • Sims 5 should be a combination of Sims 1 and Sims 2,IMO. Multi-purpose lots, horoscopes, likes and dislikes, CAW, and buildable apartments-that's what I expect Sims 5 to be.
  • I don’t like rabbit holes at all, I want to be able to enter building I see. it would be nice to be able to see your neighbors and walk over to talk to them, See kids roller skating and riding bikes around the neighborhood. The sims 4 neighborhoods are too small. I think there should be at least 10 lots in a neighborhood, and no rabbit hole lots.
  • I agree with SheriSim57, I don't care too much for rabbit holes. But I loved the open world of Sims 3 but I know many people had issues playing it because you had to have a pretty powerful computer. So I like the thought of open neighborhoods. But I wish they would bring back a lot of stuff that was in Sims 3. There was so much to do. Sims 4 has been out for years but I find myself wondering what I could do next.
  • A huge Open World. Rockstar done that in 2013 or GTA5 with no problems so EA can very easily pull it off in this day and age I think
  • I'm not sure if these capture what I want.
I would be fine with a world like Sunset valley chopped up into districts with 15 to 20 lots each.
All lots are are open within the district, but you would get a loading screen if you go to another district.

I would be fine with career rabbit holes for traditional Sim careers, since these sims go to off-screen rabbit holes anyway.
But I would also like Sims 4 interactive career lots that require a loading screen for specific game play.

I don't need all my worlds accessible like TS4 does. Actually it's kind immersion breaking to see sims out for a jog in towns that feel too far away from where they live. One large town per save okay, with associated adventure and travel destinations. And if worlds are broken up into districts, the world can be larger than The Sims 3's worlds.

Yes, they can, however EA seems to want their Sims games being able to run on potato PC's, so that's the only real reason it's holding this game back.

When they don't focus too much on low end systems they can do it, but I don't think it will ever happen because they will alienate a fairly big part of their target audience too if they decide to go 'all in'.

The Sims 3 had a very amazing concept with the open world, and I still miss it dearly, however it came with it's fare share of problems too. Instead of correcting the problems and improving upon the systems with the next game (Sims 4), they just got rid of everything that was causing the game to load slow and lag.. Same goes for CAST. 'Oh it was making the game so slow, so just cut it'.

If they really want SOME kind of progression after the Sims 4, they have to at least come up with open neighborhoods without ANY loadingscreen within them and add real story progression back.

Personally I can live with a 'closed' world but I see (fully) open neighborhoods as a must.

But hey, who knows, maybe the Sims 5 will be a mobile only game, like developers love nowadays. Same keeps happening to MMO's. (My dear Aion :( ) They announce next games and it's mobile only. It's just .. ugh.
  • Open World is far to laggy, especially as you add more content. Open neighbourhood I feel would be a nice compromise.
