Yikes, I'm on a 32-bit computer and wasn't planning on getting a new one. Will have to make that decision when the time comes. As long as we can continue to play the game and packs that we already own, it might not be so bad. Frankly the game runs pretty well for me with almost all of the EPs and GPs and a few of the SPs.
This is just me thinking out loud, but it would make more sense to set the 64-bit requirement for The Sims 5 rather than changing horses in midstream on The Sims 4. Oh well.
I'm gonna have to agree with that, although I use a 64-bit system I do feel for the people who have 32 bit systems. I understand if a hypothetical Sims 5 were to have only 64 bit support. But why they would remove support for 32 bit systems seemingly out of the blue for TS4 is just confusing. :/
Keep in mind that this isn't something they likely chose to do without the pros and cons. And is probably due to Apple and Microsoft ending support for 32-bit systems as well.
If the switch to no longer supporting 32-bit means that they can fix the lag issues and make bigger worlds those would be 2 huge pros.
A con is that some players won't be able to update, buy new packs, or use the gallery after the switch to 64-bit only.
Given the requirement to use Origin to play Sims 4, EA knows how many players would be affected vs how many are not.
To me, if the lag and larger worlds are possible after the switch to 64-bit only and there aren't a huge number affected vs not affected, then it would be crazy to not switch to 64-bit only. As they'd likely get more money if they could solve those 2 problems.
Keep in mind the alternative may have been to end Sims 4 prematurely.
This could have been EA going "We're following Apple and Microsoft and no longer supporting 32-bit."
And the Sims team debated on what to do and this was what they came up with so that they could finish out their plans for Sims 4 and continue to support it for the most people possible.
