If I plan to have my Sim be a writer, oddly enough I'll have them paint first -- they can work on the Painting aspiration while they're employed and the Painting aspiration enables Sims to not only paint all the emotional paintings, they care write the emotion based books (Romance, Confident, Workout Guide etc.) when they're in any mood (when they get to proper level), giving me more variety in books to write/publish. Business and Tech Guru are a close second and third respectively. Rarely do the active careers from GTW or the Criminal careers. I love the structure of the CL careers (where you can "work from home" or go into the office) and use a suite of mods that adds that functionality to some of the base game careers.
