What's the point of "Computer settings"?

I did not want the live-in keeper access the main computer of the house. So I clicked "computer security" (?) and locked the computer for her specifically. But now when I enter the house who is sitting browsing the web on that compute, if not the only sim who should not have access?

When she is the active sim and I click on the computer there is no pie menu but one greyed out option (can't remember what it said, but this looks correct). But what is the point if the security works only if I'm controlling the sim?

Is this a known bug, or is there something I don't get? Btw, she is an elder, in case the security works with teens or kids only... it did not say.

My neighbours and friends have stopped zooming straight to the computer and parking their butts there since I began locking for “household only” or the specific single Sim I am playing. (e.g. “Lock for everyone except Bonnie”)
  • I recommend using littlemssam's Personal Objects. It less buggy and you can claim more objects with it.
  • If you’re loading the lot after traveling this can happen, but they should get off the computer right away. Is that not happening?

The game seems to have to "remember" your settings after you've been away. As stated above, it'll kick in after it settles a bit.
  • Yeah, it doesn't take the settings into account when you're first loading the lot. The same thing happens with locking doors. When you load a lot, the game will not check to see if the place it's planning to spawn a sim is behind a door that should be locked to that sim.
Annoying, but it's not too hard to interrupt the offending sim with a chat action or a group action. And thereafter they won't go back to that computer or door assuming it remains locked.
  • Thanks all! Thinking of it, it might have happened as I loaded the lot. It's good to know (and it might be indicating that the live-in keeper needs some fun stuff in her own servant room :)
