When you hit a wall?

What do you do when your brain just hits a wall? I have started playing Animal Crossing New Horizons and New Leaf again, but the thing is that I truly want to play The Sims 4, I just have this roadblock in my brain when I think about it. Like, what do I even do. I have created some sims in cas, that sort of thing, but haven't moved forward to actually play their story. It makes me sad! I feel like there are multiple reasons for this, but, at the same time I have no idea what the reason is, it is just an enigma. What do you guys do, when you feel this way? Any advice, pointers, helpful tips? Anything that sets a fire under you, that gives you direction, that...I don't know, whatever I'm trying to say. Thank you, kind people.

  • I believe it's called burnout. I have been playing the same family for years, now. Throughout all of the restarts, etc. I just now find myself sometimes unwilling to play that save. I just need a break, I guess. I'm busy setting up my Ancestral save (since the saves in that game managed to disappear on me). Oh, well. I'm great at restarts. I'm at a pause mainly because I think there needs to be some drama in my other main save, but as of yet I can't think of what that should entail. So, I'm hoping by clearing the brain a bit from the future save (the year is 2298) by playing well into the past (the story starts in 1760 Colonial America) something will spark. I won't stray too long from the future save, as I'm sharing the story on these forums. I just need that wee break.
  • @GalacticGal I know that I would be interested in whatever story you tell, even if you do take a longer break from the future save! You are so great at story telling. You definitely need to do what makes you happy and what sparks your interest.

Thank you so very much. That's so nice to hear (read). I'm also tied up doing some genealogical research. I have a chance to get my "forgotten" branch into the published family history book which is undergoing some updates and corrections. So far, my branch is listed under my fourth great-grandfather's section as 2. Helen or Ellen. Actually, it was Ellender, and she married and had kids, too. Else, I wouldn't be here LOL At least she's listed as the second child. That much is correct. But so many of the first seven kids are missing dates of birth/death spouses, if any, kids, etc. I feel an obligation to go back and correct the record before I can add Ellender and her progeny. But I'm already missing Erik and Company. ;) I need to play my game to blow off some steam.
  • I was feeling the same, so I played Sims 2 for a couple months, and realised how much I enjoy rotational play, so that's what I'm doing now in the sims 4.
Here's how I set it up. I deleted all residential lots in 2 worlds. Then I deleted all sims in manage worlds, excluding Father Winter. I set seasons to 28 days. I plopped down 4 lots in each of the worlds also some community lots, a pool, restaurant and bowling alley etc. So, I'm playing 8 families, a week at a time. I'm playing on normal lifespan and have set aging off for unplayed sims and aging on for only active household. The game does spawn new sims, but I set neighbourhood stories to not move in for the unplayed sims, and not to move out for my played households. So far this has been working, no npc sims have moved in to any of the other worlds. Make sure to keep your families in 'my households'.
I'm not a builder so I downloaded lots from the gallery.
It didn't take long to set up and playing each family for a week means I don't get tired of them and I look forward to playing the next household.
I play with no mods at all, I used 'free real estate' cheat to move my families into the lots.
    :)
  • For fun you could make Sims based off of Animal Crossing characters.
Another is deciding what you want to do with the game. I have multiple saves where each save is slightly different. One where I recreate the families I made in Sims 2, and some that are random.
The random ones are when I create Sims based on my favorite series/characters, and have them live all together. Along with different versions of them.
You could also play premade families that may fit your needs, until you decide what you want to do.
I tend to do all sorts of saves to play what I want, and not make is all part of the same world.
You could also get a new pack you don't have to give you a fresh start as well.
