Who is Duane Talla?

I've been playing a legacy set in Sulani for the last couple of months. As many other simmers, I have crossed paths with Duane Talla and he became my Gen 2 heiress' husband. I always wondered how he was related to the Kealoha's. When he and my heiress were dating as teenagers, I visited his home as saw that he lived with the Kealoha's. However, his family tree had nothing to do with theirs. He always thinks of Nani Kealoha when he thinks of family members and seems very close to them. However, I had no choice but to set aside my curiosity.

My legacy progressed and my Gen 4 heirs are here, however, my Gen 3 heiress is on the verge of young adulthood. As a teenager, I had her meet many friends and create a Sulani Teens party group. She was the most compatible with a sim named Zachery Kealoha (born from Lilliana and Makoa through the magic of MCCC). They eventually became an item with their fair share of messing around.

However, it is now Love Day and at some point Zachery aged up into a young adult. I couldn't have my teen sim do any romantic interactions with him, so I simply had her go on a platonic "outing" to the spice festival with Zach and gave him some roses. At the end of our outing, Nani Bailey-Moon (nee Kealoha, gotta love MCCC) hugged Zachery, and that is when I remembered that they were siblings.

Lilliana and Makoa are dead, Duane is an elder 2 days away from death, and his daughter who is one day away from young adulthood. Was it an oversight/mistake that Duane was not formally related to the Kealoha's or is he honestly just a lone sim that happened to live with them? It too late to take back their messing around, but i'm not opposed to this adding drama to my legacy save file. Did my teenage sim get involved in a possibly incetuous relationship due to the ambuiguity of Duane's past? Her family has yet to learn that she is dating Zachery, but will she learn the truth herself or will this become a buried secret that only I, the player, am left to deal with.

Anyways I thought I'd bring this to the forum to get some general thoughts. Who is Duane Talla? Who are his parents? How did he end up with the Kealoha's? I am saving the game at the point when she has just arrived outside her beach home on the night of Love Day. Her future will be decided based on the responses I receive (if I receive any).
Happy simming~

Yeah, I think it's just one of those things that are ambiguous enough that you can go with whatever you want - everything from adopted siblings to distant cousins to housemates. In my game, he was from a troubled family, knew Makoa since they're both often out on the water, and Makoa took him in when he learned that Duane was at the point of running away.
  • Thank you so much!
@KiniHokulani I imagined as such, however, I'm thinking I might allow it it to add some drama. I don't like my families being perfect, and since it's too easy for relationships to progress to marriage, I want any accidental drama to became a larger deal.
Side note: I love your Forum name, I actually named my gen four heiress Hokulani (she has twin older brothers named Haku and Hani), they are all very cute (toddlers).

@ryttu3k Thank you! I'm thinking of creating a story. l play on normal life span so I tend to get my sims a job, married and moved out ASAP once they age up. However, if I take a detour and make Haven's (my gen 3 daughter, the main character of this post) third trait child of the islands, I might be able to use the spirits to guide my game and tell Haven of the truth of her father. I can feel this story becoming extremely extra. Perhaps I'll move this to the Sims 4 Stories board when I play it out.

Thank you guys so much for you replies!
  • Yep, as others said, you can take it in the direction that you want. I have started with the Sulani pre-mades though I've just played them a little bit. Duane is a foster kid in my game. The Kealohas took him in as a way of tribal fostering but he isn't biologically related to them. Actually, Makoa Kealoha is descended from Japanese workers who assimilated into the culture, like what was common in Hawaii. He married Lilliana and became part of the tribe but biologically, he has no relationship to Duane.

Social services in Sulani are a bit different because the tribe has its own way of managing things. The Kealohas took Duane in but he is only living there until he grows up which happens as a teen in their culture. So, he works his own job, fishes and tries to fend more for himself. He's still a teen right now. I have no issue with him eventually marrying Nani if it works out that way, but he's not deeply connected to the family. They're just sheltering him in my game until he can be fully independent. His goal is to be independent as soon as possible.

That's how I'm interpreting him. I've also let the Sulani pre-mades develop other customs that aren't totally like the other worlds. You have to be allowed to own property there with a preference for the tribe. Marrying is a way of joining the tribe but it is kind of fluid. Households are not all "nuclear families". Someone is shipwrecked there and has to slowly discover the island.

Also, the royal household is all women and is matrilineal. They don't marry, they live as female heirs - kind of isolated. I haven't fully explored the pack but Sulani is a different culture in my game.
  • I had no idea so I just cheated his relationships to make him a part of the family  But yeah, huge mystery indeed!
