Who remembers your sim trimming the garden hedge?

In the first series we had to pay more attention to keep the home tidy and nice looking. I miss the way to tell the difference between a neat and messy sim home. Wish some of those small activities returned in TS4. Not holding my breath, though.

If we did not trim the hedge the plants would overgrow and the garden would look untended. Not sure if this was in TS1 or TS2.

Sims had to water most of the indoor potted plants. If not, they would die and need to be replaced to keep up the room score.

Sims used to leave their bed unmade, unless it was a neat sim. Then sims could make beds or leaving that job to the Maid. I loved seeing some messy bedrooms here and there, it's a lot more realistic (in certain homes, ahem..) TS3 (and TS2?)

I also think weeds would appear, and spread unless the sim removed them. TS3?

Any more minor home tasks that sims could to but that is no longer in the game?

  • I recently installed MCCC and found some autonomous dish-cleaning actions to wipe out. So now they only do it when I direct them to (it was so frustrating to watch them put a single dish in the dishwasher instead of collecting all of them first, tying up the dishwasher for the moment). I also made hand washing no longer autonomous because I often have them shower right after they go, otherwise I can just queue up the wash hands myself.

I agree with all the comments missing the old stuff we used to have to do.
  • Never had the sims1 or 2 bet they were cool! i started with sims3, is it possible to find them anymore?

Speaking of dishwashers, I have two households that have them, but they never use them, only the sinks. I have no mods. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong.

I know what you mean. I can’t explain it. But with the settings I have now, I choose “load dishwasher” and it’s fine because they are not doing dishes on their own in the sink. If the dishwasher was in use and I say “clean up”, only then would they use the sink.
  • The last neighborhood I played in Sims 2 was Veronaville, so, oh, boy, do I remember those hedges! Oftentimes the gardener left before she was finished with everything. Fortunately influence points aren't hard to come by, so my snobs usually persuaded a visitor to do the rest. Or put their disbehaving teens to the task.

I wish we had more chores in Sims 4, especially lawnmowing and sweeping/vacuuming the floor. I have the stage marks in some rooms to fake floor scrubbing, but then the sims accumulate acting skill points.

That's another ting I miss: the cleaning skill that is unrelated to traits. Irl I'm a slob, meaning I do not care much about my surroundings, but when I finally pick up a cleaning cloth I'm very good at cleaning. Or to the contrary we could have a sim who is neat, but isn't interested in learning how to clean (rich parents, servants, household robots, whatever) and thus fails at it when he tries because his skill is still low.
  • The hedges were like the one thing I didnt like in the sims 2 because I always used too many and they grew back so fast. One time I hired a gardener and he didnt even finish because there was so much to trim lmao

I wouldn't mind if they came back tho. It would give me a reason to use the gardener npc
  • Oh yeah, I remember that.

That was annoying. I would delete most hedges and flowers from my lots.
