Why do we even have the bubble blower?

There's a bubble blower in one of the dorms where one of my Sims is attending university and after a few terms it occurred to me that no one ever uses it. I have a household in Uptown San Myshuno where there is a bubble blower in the neighborhood and I've never seen any sims use that one either, over 2 generations of sims living there.
I also almost never use it manually, as it's not all that interesting. I feel like it's almost pointless that it even exists in the game.

Does anyone else have some positive stories about entertaining things that came out of using one? Also...does anyone know why sims don't use it autonomously in my game, like ever. Is that how it is for everyone or do I maybe have a mod that has a stealth feature of disabling it for autonomy?

@Stormkeep, have you attempted to enable autonomy on it with MCCC? Might be fun to see which sims interact with it when it's autonomous.

It's already enabled for autonomous behaviour, it just doesn't have tuning set to make it at all attractive to actually use it for most sims outside of the additional attraction boost it can get during events (such as the festival) or as a club activity.

With it set as a club activity, it becomes popular enough to be full. First time I ever saw it even get used at this Vampire Bar in my game.

  • I see Sims using the bubble blowers at the San Myshuno festivals quite often. There are bubble blowers in a few lounges and bars in my world and, now that I think about it, I see Sims using them autonomously, too.

It makes me chuckle to see Sims reacting with disgust when a companion blows bubbles, waving their hands dismissively...and then sitting down at the seat beside them to indulge themselves.
  • I think the bubble blower is a learnt addiction, meaning you need to direct them at first to use it, and they will start using it autonomously afterwards.

That actually makes some sense. Do you know if sims that are not active learn behaviours too? Like the sims I have put in clubs to use the bubble machine...will they learn to use it on their own even outside of the clubs by using it while in clubs all while I'm not playing them?
...a question I have never thought to ask before.

I have no idea, but from what I've noticed with a sim who has one of these on her lot, she basically ignored it for a long time until one day she started using it. There was computer, darts, books, game table, garden plants, aquarium, globe bar, on the lot and she preferred to spend her day swimming in the pool. She eventually took to reading, swimming, bubble blowing and occasionally admiring a signed autograph from some celebrity sim and sometimes looking at the fish.
You could try put the bubble blower in a cafe with few seats at tables (or no seata at all), to force sims to sit on the bubble blower seats. I think they will start using it autonomously.
  • My sims typically use the bubble blowers at the festivals and several sims come to the area and either sit and blow bubbles or sit on benches around them. Some of them actually use it without choking, which means they do it autonomously.
