Will skill levels transfer over whenever sims are aged up? (help needed)

Cause, I think I'm getting to the point where I think I wanna age up the whole Stein family. But I'm scared if that would damage the skills I'm having the family members slowly build on. I don't want ...

The best thing to do, when you aren't sure whether to do something, is save the game first and then try it. If you don't like the results, you can just go back to the Main Menu without saving.
