It's a nice idea. But your collection progress resets every time you change households, and you can't save collectibles to lots, which is a terrible shame. Otherwise it would be a great thing to have. It would run circles around the current in-game museums if you could keep your entire collection stored at a public museum rather than on your home lot, or in your pockets.
I usually build a gallery room as well, but only a room and not a whole museum. XD
Alright! I have play tested this and I can confirm that you CAN save your collectibles to the lot. So, you can have your entire collection stored at a public museum, so go cray and have fun! :D
I have play tested this and learned that you can have your sim move residential homes or even switch to playing a different house entirely and your collectibles will still be there. You can go back and forth between your residential home and your private museum consistently and your collectibles will be saved and remain at the museum. So rotational playing is compatible with this and you don't have to worry about your collection going missing.
As far as the collection progress, yes it does reset, but that doesn't bother me much because I love to collect, so I don't mind collecting two of some things so that I can display one of them and use the other for my collection progress.
LOL, I know a museum is a lot, but I wanted to collect everything in the game and I really didn't want my collectibles to clutter up my entire house and I don't really have the room to dedicate a whole room to my collection at home, the lots in TS4 are so small! My sim has a tiny house right now too, lol. :D
Anyways, if you want a private museum HAVE FUN! It's totally possible! :D (If you don't mind the collection progress resetting and collecting two of those items. That's the only thing. Otherwise, it works like a charm, so go nuts and have fun!)
That's.... not quite what I meant.
Try this.
1. Save your Museum to your Library.
2. Open up a new game file.
3. Place the museum in this new game.
4. See if your collectibles are still there.
