Your thoughts on the current memory system?

I thought it wasn’t working anymore because I heard it broke at one point and I couldn’t find it the last time I tried.
I like automatic memories. I used to find them interesting when bringing a new sim into the family, or looking back upon their lives. Right now it doesn’t matter if someone cheats for example and the couple makes up. It’s like nothing ever happened but I want a memory for things like that. Of course it would be great to have the custom memory option, too, and I do like the idea that a screenshot can accompany a memory.
I wish screenshots were managed better to begin with. I’d want them easily sorted by current household, I’d like to incorporate them with the photographs they take, too. It would be nice to flip through them all in a large scrapbook UI they can interact with as a book. Then definitely have a place in their regular UI for the individual memories.

Well, since it's just a moodlet they get, you could obtain the same effect with any other moodlet inducing object. I'd like memories to have a deeper effect than just moodlets. Like if you anger a sim, they remember and will not talk to you or take your calls until you apologize or something. Or remember that they know you and send you gifts or texts or call you on your birthday or wedding.

This. I do not use them as they are nothing that glorified moodlet givers. Sims don't have memories. The memory system is just a play pretend type of memory.

Are you sure this still exists in the game? I thought it was removed after the overhaul.
Personally I love memories but not like in the Sims 4 or Sims 3.

I only liked them in the Sims too because the Sim would judge if they were positive or negative depending on their personality.
Also going to the memories tab always felt like you could read your sims lifestory which I thought was awesome. If you didn't know a lot about a premade sim you could just go to their memories and learn all interesting facts about their life before you started playing them.
The photo album was also a great way to keep photos of your gameplay and go back to every now and then.

I think they could take the Sims 2 memory system and expand it more since it is a bit outdated. The concept itself though is the best one for me though.
The Sims 4 system just felt so meaningless.

Yes, that's what i love about it, you can make custom memories for each sim. It still works, i actually just started using it.

Agreed with you both! The effects need to be more than just a moodlet but i still think the concept of creating memories this way is good. I think it has potential to be something great!

@SimmerGeorge I just used it before making this thread. I did not play sims 2 that much but i liked the idea of its memory system. How would you update it? or how would you alter sims 4 system to make it more impactful in your opinion?

I actually really liked the idea with your sims having their memories in the personality section of the UI. I also liked the idea to use icons instead of pictures cause that meant you didn't have to take a picture every time they made a memory and the automatic pictures were pretty bad angles most of the time. I think an option to replace the icon with your own picture would be great though. Just add the option in for people who want to take their time and take pictures of their memories.
I also really liked the storytelling photo album from the Sims 2, where you could add pictures one after the other to create a picture story and even add descriptions if you wanted to. But because both the memory and photo album ideas are pretty similar maybe they could merge them together in a clever way.

This SimsVIP page talks about that system and how it worked. I also made a video explaining it before the patch for Get Together came out (I'll put it under spoilers to reduce the room this post takes).
There are two main reasons why. The first one is that I could choose the emotion I wanted and change it anytime I want. The current system is automatic and usually depends on the emotion your sim was experiencing that time. I usually want to take a memory picture of dying sims as a memory about death, but because my sim felt happy during that time, it gets labelled as a happy memory. Or I get a memory picture about the first kiss and these two sims break up and hate each other. The emotion attached to it will always be positive. The second one is that you could see only those pictures that were associated as your sim's memory. That one got removed, so now if you want to find the memory picture, you have to find it amongst other pictures. This is especially terrible for me because I have over 200+ households across all of my saves (3) and I take a lot of pictures.
I want people to bring it up to SimGurus to let them know that. The old one might have been barebones (unlike the more developed one in The Sims 3), but it was enough for me.

i much more prefer sims 2 memories system. moodlets can go f themselves unless ea is able to include them in a more complex system, the screenshot way of handling memories...well it's not too bad, but it's not enough

@SimmerGeorge Auto memories would be great for people who dont like to take screenshots, or simlpy forget. The option to chose auto or manual would be ideal since i know with auto memories some people had to turn them off to prevent bloating. I am talking about ts3, btw. I did that too! Another thing i wanted to ask about in my op is deleting memories. With ts4 current system it seems you can do that. I dont think you can do that in ts2 without cheats, right? say your sims got robbed long time ago and they are much older now and you think some of them should forget this so you go and get rid of it. How would you feel about having this much control? would you consider it kinda cheaty? did you do something like this in ts2? i personally like the idea of having say in what my sims memories are but i know not everyone want this much control.

@EgonVM Oh, is these changes why some people think it is gone? I havent created many memories with it so i have yet to run into these issues but yes lets hope it gets improved.

@bellagoth_ Lol, yes i want it to be more than moodlets but i enjoy some aspects of the current system. It could be salvaged, imo.

i too think that it could be salvaged, but i highly doubt that ea will even bother to do so
