Can’t Connect online or switch characters

At first I was able to connect online to the gallery and purchase packs and expansion kits. It seems like after the update I can not connect online and my characters won’t switch unless I go to manage worlds. My computer is plugged directly into my modem now and it still doesn’t work. Can someone help me resolve this please.
