Crashing game since maj of september
Sul sul,
I’m having a very frustrating issue with The Sims 4 since the recent 1.128.90 update on Mac, and I’m hoping someone has experienced something similar and found a solution.
Before this update, my game worked normally with my usual Mods/CC. I don’t play very often, so it’s especially frustrating that the game broke just when I wanted to play.
My setup:
- Mac with Apple Silicon ( M3 Pro ) / ARM64
- macOS 27.0.1 (26A434)
- The Sims 4 version 1.128.90.1230
- Around 1,600 .package files in my Mods folder, plus around 25 folders
- MCCC was installed previously
- **bleep** had previously been installed, although it was NOT currently installed in my Mods folder
What happens
When I launch the game with my Mods/CC, it loads normally but then crashes in Live Mode after a few seconds to a few minutes.
The timing varies, but my latest test crashed after approximately 10 seconds.
The important part is that the game is stable without Mods/CC.
Everything I have already tested
I first renamed my old:
Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4
to:
The Sims 4 BACKUP
This forced the game to create a completely new Sims 4 folder.
With this clean folder and no Mods/CC, I created a temporary family and played in Live Mode for around 20 minutes, including several interactions, without any crash.
I then tested my actual save WITHOUT Mods/CC for around 10–16 minutes, and it also worked normally.
So the save itself does not appear to be corrupted.
I restored my old saves into the clean folder. There was a folder related to **bleep** inside the saves folder, but **bleep** itself was NOT installed in Mods. I removed that old/orphaned folder as a test, but the crash remained.
I also had MCCC installed, so I completely removed MCCC and tested again.
The game still crashed almost immediately.
I then temporarily removed the approximately 25 folders from my Mods folder, leaving the root-level .package files.
The game still crashed in less than a minute.
I also had a duplicate Resource.cfg warning when restoring my Mods, so I kept the newly generated/clean Resource.cfg rather than the old duplicate.
Despite all these tests, the crash continues whenever my CC/Mods are present.
I also installed Better Exceptions, but it does not report any specific problem before the crash.
Crash report
The crash is not a normal Last Exception. The macOS crash report shows:
EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000100000004
Termination Reason: Namespace SIGNAL, Code 11, Segmentation fault: 11
The crash is triggered by Thread 0 / the main thread.
The stack is mostly inside The Sims 4, followed by Foundation/CoreFoundation timer callbacks.
The VM region information also says:
0x100000004 is not in any region
What makes this strange
The game is completely capable of running normally with the same save when Mods/CC are removed.
As soon as I restore my CC/Mods, it starts crashing in Live Mode again.
I already spent several hours trying to isolate the problem and could not identify one specific CC file.
I have around 1,600 .package files, so doing a complete manual 50/50 test would take a very long time, especially since the game can sometimes run for a few minutes before crashing.
I also know the 1.128 patch notes mention fixes involving crashes and a mod-related memory corruption issue, which makes the EXC_BAD_ACCESS / SIGSEGV crash particularly interesting.
Has anyone experienced this exact problem?
Has anyone else on Mac experienced:
- The Sims 4 crashing only when CC/Mods are enabled
- EXC_BAD_ACCESS / SIGSEGV
- KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS
- crashes after a few seconds/minutes in Live Mode
- no Better Exceptions report
- the game working normally with the same save when Mods/CC are removed
If you experienced something similar after patch 1.128.90, did you find a solution without having to manually test hundreds/thousands of CC files?
I would especially appreciate hearing from anyone who had the same type of native memory crash and managed to identify what was causing it.
thanks !
