"Finger grooves" glitch in male Dine Out vest fixed (by my husband)

The "ym Top_GP03Vest" from the Dine Out game pack has been glitched since the pack first came out. It causes the appearance of weird grooves on the front and back of both hands. My husband recently figured out what the problem was and fixed it.

The fixed vest is available for download on my simlit story website here: https://glaciersnowsimlit.weebly.com/mods-and-custom-content.html

Just scroll down until you see "Therillion's fix for glitched Dine Out vest" and open the drop down box for the link to download.

If you'd like to fix it yourself, here's the info:

The normal map was not aligned with the UV map. As you can see in this screenshot where he overlayed them both in Blender 3D, the UV map is at the top of the square and the normal map is at the bottom of the square. The cuffs of the sleeves in the normal map just happens to overlap the hands in the UV map, causing the grooves on the sim.

To fix it, he simply moved the normal map up to the top of the square so that it aligns properly with the UV map.

There were also a couple places on the vest itself where the same issue was causing misaligned shadows in the cloth, but these were a lot harder to notice. The grooves on the hands were much more obvious. But this fix fixes all the misalignment issues.

With the two maps properly aligned, all the grooves go away.

This glitch was reported on the EA Answers bug report forum here a while ago. I'll post this explanation of how to fix it there as soon as I figure out how to upload pictures to that forum to show the problem and the fix.
  • Update: I have now posted a brief explanation of the problem and solution (as well as the two screenshots of the normal map and UV map overlay) on the EA Answers bug report thread I mentioned in the post above. Feel free to go there and hit "me too" if you'd like to see this very easy fix get officially fixed soon. In the meantime, you can download the fixed version in the link I provided in the first post.

By the way, on the EA Answers thread, I go by "Ghost of Nobody" instead of "GlacierSnow". Just, you know, to keep things simple.
  • You're quite welcome @WaytoomanyUIDs ! It was a big deal for me because I have a character in my simlit story who habitually wears that top (I could never find a substitute outfit I liked for him), and the massive amount of time I was wasting editing his hands to get rid of the grooves in screenshots was really starting to get on my nerves. The fact that it could be fixed so easily was a huge relief. I figured there might be others who could use it too, so that's why I shared the fix package.
