Furniture doesn't work when I moved my Sims

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.106.148.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? None.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? When I moved my Sims to a new house, they weren't able to interact with any of the furniture but in their original house they could.
What happens when the bug occurs? Whenever I tried making my Sims interact with a piece of furniture, they would wave their hand and the bubble with a footprint and X would appear making it seem like they can't get there but they can walk in front of the furniture.
What do you expect to see? I expect to see them use the furniture such as the toilet or sit down on a couch.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I'm not too sure if this is a Bug but no matter where I move my sims, they can't interact with any of the furniture in their new house. I tried two different houses, but they can't interact with any of the furniture, I tried CC furniture and the base-game ones too, but they can't interact with neither. I restarted my game and everything, but nothing seems to work but they can interact with CC and base-game furniture in their original house before I moved them. Even if the furniture is isolated from any other object, they still can't use it, but they can move around in the lot, so I am confused on what to do.

  • Hi @789123mm

    Try the following

    • Close the game
    • Rename Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old
    • Repair the game
    • Start the game. All your content will be gone now as the game created a new folder. All your saves/.. is still in the old folder so not to worry
    • Start a new save game
    • Check if you still have the error
    • Report back with your results for further steps on how to get your stuff back.

There is an issue where objects can become unowned but I don't think that affects furniture so much that you can't use it at all so please make sure to test a vanilla game.

  • I followed the steps you told me to do, and it works now, thank you. But how do I get my stuff back?

You can now start to copy back things from Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4_Old to the new Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 folder that was created.

First only copy (I suggest to copy so you can go back in case anything goes wrong along the way) the content of the folder Saves (these are your save games). If you are prompted if want to overwrite a save, decide if you want to keep that testing save you just made or not. If not, just overwrite if, if you want to keep it, rename the save to a different number that isn't taken.

Test just your save game with nothing else added back. If that works, you can start copying back the rest. If not, check back.

You will need the following folders

    - Tray (your households and lots you have saved to library)
    - Custom Music (if you added any)
    - Screenshots (if you've taken any)
    - Videos (if you've taken any)
    - ConfigOverride (if you made any although I recommend redoing those)
    - Options(.ini) (although I recommend to just redo your settings in the game)

Now test again. If that still works, you can put back your mods. Put them back in groups and make sure they are still compatible with the game.

All other files are recreated and not needed.

  • So, everything was working up until I added the mods into the new folder and didn't work again. I did test it out with the specific lots that didn't work previously, when I put down the one of the game's furniture it did work until I put the rest of my mods in and then nothing worked again. Should I delete my mods? By the way my mods worked beforehand, and I didn't download any other ones too, so I'm a bit confused why all of a sudden it had stopped working.

@789123mm You can use this method to figure out which mods and CC you need to delete: 50-50 . You will still be able to use some, but this update likely broke something you use. If you can narrow it down, I'd like to know what that was, too!
