Game doesn't launch.

Ever since the most recent update I am not able to play my game whatsoever, I'm able to open the EA app but when I do press play on the game it tells me its going to launch but it fails to every time, I've tried troubleshooting but nothing seems to work unfortunately, thanks in advance!

  • pradaheaux  Please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs, that is if you can get that far.

If you still can't play, please provide a dxdiag.  Hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Please also let me know whether you play only through the EA App, or Steam or Epic is involved.

It was able to launch when I took out my original sims folder, I play through the EA App

  • pradaheaux  That means that the issue is something in your old folder.  The first suspect is always broken or outdated mods, so the place to start is with testing the contents of the Mods folder.  Here's a list of files known to be broken after the most recent patch:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Mods-CC-Issues/Broken-and-Updated-Sims-4-Mods-and-CC-1-111-Dec-3-2024-Game/td-p/14300669

For anything not on the list, you'll need to test it yourself.  The 50/50 method can make the process more efficient:

    https://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Finding_Problem_Custom_Content#The_50.25_Method

Once you've dealt with that, or start here if you don't have any mods or custom content (or you don't mind deleting the Mods folder entirely), you can move the contents of the old saves and Tray folders to the new Sims 4 folder, plus Screenshots and Recorded Videos if you care about those.  The rest of the files and folders in the old Sims 4 folder can be discarded.
