Game won't pause/fast forward, Sims keep moving, Infinite saving screen

Once I've been playing game for a couple minutes, the pause button stops actually pausing the game. "Paused" appears at the bottom of my screen as it should, but the usual red border when the game is...

Do you have mods or CC in your Mods folder? If so, please do a "vanilla" test:  Drag the Mods folder to the desktop and rename it, delete the file called localthumbcache, open the game to test, and exit without saving. This will let you know if a mod or CC item is your cause. If it is, see Mod & CC Issues: START HERE
