Help!!! Sims 4 won’t open on Mac with mods/cc
Yesterday I sat down at my computer after 2 months of not playing and updated the sims. I refreshed my outdated mods and pressed play but it didn’t open. I looked this up and it said it was probably due to broken or incorrectly installed mods or cc. I went to mod hound and it said that nothing was incorrect or outdated. Everything was fine! Of course mod hound doesn’t work on cc but I didn’t think much of it. So basically when I have my mods folder in, the game literally refuses to open and just stays on my desktop until I after like 15 minutes it finally gives me an error notification saying that it cannot open due to broken or needed data files or something. Then, when I take out the mods folder it opens and runs like normal. I’ve tried everything from making a whole new sims 4 folder to restarting my computer to repairing sims 4 in the ea app to deleting the localthumbcache file. I’ve been at this for hours now and I’m at a loss though I’m certain it’s a mod/cc problem. I’ve been playing for 3 years now and this has never happened before!
Please try this:
- Drag your whole Sims 4 folder from Document > Electronic Arts to your desktop.
- Launch Sims 4. You should get no list of mods on launch, and you should have no option to load a previous save. Reset your Options.
- Start with New to test if your issue recurs in a new game.
If that works, start putting old content back:
- Exit and copy files out of your old Saves folder into the new Saves folder. Important: Don't just copy the old folder! You want to use the newly created folders.
- Launch Sims 4 and use Load to select an older save to test.
If that works:
- Copy your old Tray files (this is your Library), Screenshots and Videos files.
- To test mods, copy the files into the new folder in batches with any mods they depend on (injectors and core mods, for example). Don't copy your old Resource.cfg file. If you delete any mods from the new folder, delete the file called localthumbcache.
