I can't join a career?

I have tried alot but I can't seem to join a career, I have gone onto the computer and it just made my sim jump out of the chair before it got to the screen, I tried on the phone and they just went off the phone, so I did the shift click thing to cheat a career but it just didn't pop up? Any help??

    Do you have mods or CC in your Mods folder? If so, please do a "vanilla" test:  Drag the Mods folder to the desktop and rename it, delete the file called localthumbcache, open the game to test, and exit without saving.
