Location menu bug

My sims started acting up when a blue box of nothing continued to flicker on the location menu, now this has gone but the location menu continually reloads, I select a household, it loads and takes me back to the location menu again and again so I can't actually play the game. i've reset game settings, reset my actual computer, started a fresh save and nothing works.
