My sim won't use the fabricator

I've been looking at all the issues others have had with the fabricator, but it doesn't seem to be what I'm experiencing. When I try to get my sim to use the fabricator (for any item) nothing happens, they start it nor does the action even appear in their queue. At first I thought it was because other sims were trying to use the machine but that doesn't seem to be the case. I've tried reseting both my sim and the fabricator. I'm not sure what to do?

Do you have enough bits and pieces to make anything?  You can check by mousing over the fabricator, mousing over the recycling machine or mousing over the household money at the bottom left of the screen.  It if shows zero or low numbers for either, then you need to recycle some stuff using the recycling machine to get them.  You can get bits and pieces in other ways.  Try dumpster diving and rummaging in trash cans.

If you do have bits and pieces, then the items you can make will not be greyed out in the selection panel.  If all the items are greyed out, again, not enough bits and pieces.  If you do have bits and pieces and the items are not greyed out in the selection panel, then something else is going on.  If you are using mods and CC, then test by trying to use the machine in a vanilla game, without your mods and CC.  If it works then, you'll know it is something in your mods folder causing the problem.  You'll have to do a bunch of testing until you find the problem file and remove it.

    Hope this helps.

  • Same here! This must be a recent issue. I took all my mods out, repaired the game and still the same issue. Other sims seem to be able to use it. Just not my sim lol.

It is not an issue with bits and pieces as my sim has more than enough and the items are not greyed out. The interaction just does not work. No interaction comes up when I try to use it. It allows me to pick what item I want to make, but then nothing happens. I have tried replacing it, moving it, moving lots. No fix so far ☹️

I’m just an idiot lol so it was because I didn’t have enough bits and pieces. The item I wanted to make was not greyed out so I thought I had enough. It wasn’t until I actually hovered over the item I wanted to make that it said I didn’t have enough.

it’s strange to me that other items are greyed out if I don’t have enough bits and pieces, but not all items. If I didn’t have enough to make the rug, why would it even appear as an option and even let me click it. Is this a new feature? The only way I realized this is because my sim didn’t have enough money to paint, but the options still came up. When I clicked on the option, the interaction just didn’t come up in my sims queue. I feel like this must be new, because normally the game wouldn’t let me get as far as to clicking options if I don’t have enough of whatever currency to create items.

    thanks for all your help!
