Popups visually bugged and assigning Sim to bed freezes game

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I'm not sure. I hadn't opened Sims 4 in a year. It wasn't like this the last time I played.
What happens when the bug occurs? Dialogue boxes and pop ups (when exiting to save, exiting Sims 4 overall, a character's choice and more) are visually glitched. Can still interact, but it is difficult to read or see anything. Additionally when trying to "Assign Sim to Bed" the game becomes frozen with a dark blue tint over the screen. The pop up to select a Sim doesn't show up at all. Have to force close the game at this point.
What do you expect to see? For pop ups to be clear and legible. To be able to assign Sims to their beds without freezing the game.

Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. Issue did not occur when I previously played. Game had to update before I could launch it again.
I have uninstalled Sims 4 and Origin. Restarted computer and then reinstalled both. Used repair function in Origin client.
