Potential Bug - Hidden Mess

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Rarely (0% - 9%)
What is your current game version number? 1.99.305.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Get to Work, City Living, Cats & Dogs, Seasons, Island Living, Eco, Ranch, Cottage, Get Famous, Relm of Magic, Strangerville, Jungle Adventure, Vampires, Spa Day, Outdoor Retreat, My First Pet
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Create a new game in the Ranch expansion pack and build a house on the open lot
What happens when the bug occurs? I built a new house and when I moved my sims in they went to a certain area of the house and got the Filthy Surroundings moodlet. I moved everything around in the house to see if I could find the mess and could not. I hired a maid in game and they couldn't find the mess either. When I move things in the affected area, it will not let me put things back where they were originally when I created the house.
What do you expect to see? The moodlet to only appear when there is actually a mess that needs cleaned.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I built a new house on the open lot in the Ranch expansion pack. When I moved my sims in, they went into the kitchen/living room area and got the Filthy Surroundings moodlet. It originally was only in the kitchen but spread to the living room. I have moved everything in the affected areas to find the hidden mess but didn't see anything, when I move things and try to put them away it will not let me put them back where they were when I first built the house. I tried hiring a maid twice to try and find it that way but they  didn't clean it. I didn't use cheats to build or place anything in the house.

  • @jordyntcarter Do you have any fish bowls/aquariums ? They can quite often cause this if the fish are dead. There are several things that trigger the moodlet, not just messes.
  • @crinrict Thank you for the advice! Unfortunately, I do not have any fish tanks. I've also gone through the fridge and anything that holds other items in the area that they get the moodlet

When you check for the mess, are you doing it with the walls up?  Sometimes sims will place a dirty glass or dishes on a shelf and then can't get to it to clean it up.  I've also had it happen when a dirty glass got placed behind a computer on a desk.  It can also happen if a cooked dish or plate got left in the microwave.  And I have had dishes get hidden by clutter in the kitchen or other places in the house.  Also check your sims inventories to make sure none of them has spoiled food in their inventory.

    Hope this helps.

  • @CGrant56 I appreciate the advice! I made sure to check on top of shelves and behind things, in the area they getting the moodlet there isn't a ton of hiding space for plated and drinks. They don't have a microwave and nothing in their inventory that can go bad

  • @Gagea25 I did this and worked for a little while. After a day it started happening again! I did the same check as before and still no mess.

It sounds like whatever it is was there when you built the house.  So, this is a long shot.  When you built the house, did you bulldoze the lot first?  I'm thinking that there may have been something on the lot that you didn't notice, and you built over it and is now stuck under the floor.  Like a manure pile.  If you put the house on a foundation, you could try deleting the floor in the rooms where you are getting the reaction.  Turn MOO on and you shouldn't even have to more the furniture.  Delete the floor, take a look and hit undo to replace everything like it was, if nothing is there.  If you find it, then grab and delete or move it and replace the floor, etc.

Probably not going to find anything but it might be worth a shot if nothing else.

    Hope this helps.
