Re: CAS-Bug: Male nose slider partly inverted ...

@crinrictThank you for your reply! : )
Yes, it works on females the way it should. It's only on male sims and only the nose in profile view. (EDIT: And now also from the front!)

Deleting the cache files is something I do each and every time after closing my game. And after removing the mods, I repaired the game. I also removed the whole Sims 4 folder and then started the game to generate everthing fresh. But nothing helps. The male nose slider still acts inverted .

Actually it wouldn't bother me. But I'm afraid it's a bug. And I really wanna solve the problem. Mainly because the noses of my existing male sims (e.g. in Tray) are totally misshaped now because of the inverted slider. Every longish or hooked male nose is now flat as a pancake and every flat nose is now longish. Every wide nose is narrow and vice versa. And it's not possible to edit the misshaped noses. Slider won't react on those noses that are misshaped.

Really don't know what to do. Creating sims is totally senseless right now.

@SimsNateia could you maybe take a small video and post that. You can upload to unlisted youtube and link here.
  • @crinrict

I'm sorry, neither have I an account on Youtube nor have I ever upload a video there. *blush* But even if I could show you a video it probably wouldn't help. Just because it wouldn't be visible on the video whenever I move the mouse to the left or the right. Do you know what I mean?

Look, I try to explain it a little bit clearer. To elongate sims noses in profile view you normally move your mouse to the left and to shorten the noses you move the mouse to the right, correct? Same goes with front view. To widen the noses you move the mouse to the right and for narrowing noses you move to the left, correct?
But with the male sims it's in both cases exactly the other way around. At least in my game.

Maybe you can test in your own game to which side you have to move your mouse in front view to widen/narrowing and in profile view to lenghten/shorten the noses on both genders?

Either way thanks a lot, Crin, for your help! : )

@SimsNateia I can't duplicate the issue at all. I already tested as stated above. For me it works as expected for both male and females so I thought maybe a video would give some clarity.

Left/and right is also a view of perspective depending on which side you have your Sim turned, so pulling away from the face = Make it longer, pulling towards the face, shorter

You can also just upload it to google drive. There's ways to make the cursor show in the video. but @JonaO703 will give you instructions for that when they're back on.

@SimsNateia     Hello!  I checked this in my game as well and it is working as it should.  I wanted to clarify some things and expand a bit what @crinrict said.  The controls change depending on which way your sim is facing in profile and they'll change depending where you click when the sim is facing you.

    - In left facing profile, clicking on the bridge of the nose and dragging to the left increases the nose curve and lowers the tip, dragging to the right decreases the nose curve and raises the tip.  Clicking the tip then dragging to the left elongates the nose, dragging to the right shortens the nose, dragging up and down will respectively raise and lower the nose height.

    - In right facing facing profile clicking on the bridge of the nose and dragging to the right increases the nose curve and lowers the tip, dragging to the left decreases the nose curve and raises the tip.  Clicking the tip then dragging to the right elongates the nose, dragging to the left shortens the nose.  Dragging the nose tip up or down still raises and lowers the height.

    - While front facing, clicking on the left side of the nose and dragging left will widen the nose, dragging right will narrow.  Clicking on the right side of the nose, dragging right will widen and dragging left will narrow.  Clicking anywhere on the tip and dragging up or down will raise or lower the nose height.

If this is not how it is working for you, then it would be really helpful for you to share a video as crin mentioned earlier.  I made a video using Xbox Game Bar for Windows.  This sort of external game recorder shows the movements of the mouse in CAS.  The game bar controls will open by pressing the Windows key plus G on the keyboard.  Once you click the record button, just click into the game to manipulate it while the recording continues.  For me, the record button panel appears on the right side of the screen during the recording for when I'm ready to end it.  Here's a link to the video I made which shows how the nose slider controls are working for me as I described above.

It is possible to attach videos here but the player for AHQ isn't good.  So it's better to use a file sharing site.  You don't need a YouTube account or subscription to upload videos.  I uploaded my video to YouTube using my Google account.  You can also share videos in Google Drive like crin said.  If you don't have anything Google related, then perhaps you could upload it to another file sharing site and then copy / paste the link.  Hope this helps!

  • @crinrictThank you, Crin, for the help! : )

@JonaO703My goodness, thanks so much for your detailed reply and the video! I really appreciate it.
After reading your explanation about left/right side and the view of perspective I'm pretty confused now. *laughs* I have to admit that I'm having difficulty telling left from right, so ... I'm not sure anymore if it's a bug in my game or just normal. Maybe we know more after my video?

I used my Nvidia Experience sofware for capturing the video. Was my first time ever as well as uploading something on Youtube, but both worked. You can see my cursor dragging to the right or left and that the nose does the opposite. But now I'm not sure anymore if that's wrong or not.

(Don't be confused about the game language. In this case it's German in the video.)

Again, thanks so much for the help! Really appreciate it!

@SimsNateia   Thank you very much for sharing that video! It definitely helps us to have the visual.  While watching the video, I made some notes about my observations which I'm putting in a spoiler tag here.

    Spoiler

    - In the first part of your video, I see what you mean by the inversion.  From the right side of the nose, moving to the right should make it wider but yours went the opposite direction.  Also, I'm not able to make my sim's nose that narrow, where the nostrils seem to almost cave in.

    - In the next part, the sim is facing to the left, from my perspective.  Again, just as you said, the controls are opposite of what I'm seeing in my game.  And again, I'm not able to make my sim's nose as flat as yours.

    - When you clicked to edit the detail, again I see the controls are opposite of what they should be, except for when you manipulated the bridge of the nose and the tip.  The controls for those parts look normal.

    - After you turned the sim to the left again, the view was still in the edit details mode.  Again the controls for the nose length seemed inverted but, in this view when you manipulated the bridge, only the bridge changed.  The tip of the nose did not move.  Then when you exited out of the details view, the controls worked opposite of what they should.

    - The last thing I noticed was when you had the sim facing to the right, the controls seemed normal that time.  Although, for some reason, when you dragged to the right the tip and nostrils moved instead of actually lengthening the tip.

In your first reply to crin, you said you tried starting with a fresh TS4 folder already.  However, I wondered if you might try crin's "factory reset" steps which is a bit more detailed.  Be sure to follow all of the steps and let us know if the problem persists.

  • @JonaO703 Thanks a lot! : )
I'm relieved that you see what I see. So, the way my male nose slider acts is definitely not normal, right? (Btw. Being able to make the nose that narrow/flat is just because I have a costum slider installed to show you the difference better.) BUT the custom slider has nothing to do with the problem. As I said, I removed all mods and started a brand new game with a brand new Sims 4 system folder, but nothing helped. Cache files are also cleared. And I tried Crin's complete Troubleshooting already the day before yesterday, but the problem persists. I really don't know why. Windows and its drivers are up to date. Graphic Card is up to date. I repaired the game via Origin twice. Problem persists.

@SimsNateia   That is very strange indeed and no, from what I saw in your video, the slider's behavior is not normal.  Since the reset and repair options didn't work, the only other thing I can think of is perhaps competely reinstalling the game.  First, move your Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 folder to the desktop or some other location so that you keep all your saves, tray files, etc.  Then uninstall the game through Origin and reinstall it.  Launch and test the game without adding anything to it and let us know if the sliders are working properly or not.

  • @JonaO703  You know what? My slider problem is/was really ridiculous compared to all the stuff that happens in the world/in real life, but ....
.... Yippee, your advice worked, Jona, it worked. A complete reinstall of the game and its expansions solved the problem. :D Seems the game was just confused and needed a complete new beginning. Thank you sooo much for the advice. Just hadn't thought of reeinstalling.

Really, really appreciate your time and effort.

I will push the button "Accept as Solution" after you've read my reply. : )

@SimsNateia    Hooray!  I'm so glad that you got it working.  It might seem ridiculous to some but I completely understand.  For me, this game is an escape from all the real world stuff and it's really frustrating when things aren't working properly. :-)

Now, if you moved your original TS4 folder out, you may want to try moving your saves and tray files into the new folder.  Just be aware that some of it may have been corrupted by whatever caused the problem in the first place and adding those back in just might recreate the problem so keep that in mind.  Happy Simming! :-)

  • @JonaO703  Thank you so much for your words. Your're so right. Sims is an escape. And when the escape is not working it's very frustrating indeed. I'm glad you understand that. : )

I will absolutely keep in mind what you've wrote and be aware of potential problems when moving saved files back. I'll do that step by step, just in case something is really corrupted.

Thanks a lot, Jona! It's wonderful to see that there are still friendly and helpful people out there. : )
All the best and Happy Simming!

PS: I will not forget to hit the Solution button, promised! :D
